Some more Blu-Ray questions

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I have been researching and am thinking about picking up a Denon 1909 AVR, in addition to a new blu-ray player. I just had a question in helping to decide which player to go with:

Which of the players (under $500) is the best SD DVD upscaler? And how is it compared to the HD A3 upscaling (I already have)? Or should I not be too concerned with the player's upscaling ability since the panel can do the upscaling?

Thanks,

It is always nice to have good upscaling built into a player IMO.

Check out the Panasonic BD35 player as it is said their BD player FINALLY (with the BD35 & 55) to be very good at upscaling now. You can get the BD35 today for $200.00. Just check that BD35 thread in this section. ;)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks PFC5, I will be sure to check it out.

It is good to see that you are still around and helping people out. I have been primarily a lurker for quite some time, stemming back in the A2 v. Blu ray war...you and a few others were instrumental in getting me involved in HD and specifically, the A3. Sigh, it is too bad it had to go Blu-Ray's way, as it looks like I will be spending more money on a blu-ray player than the A3 and this is at least a year later.

Thanks agin,

I guess I have become a "fixture" around here now as much as before.

Well at least we still have HDM so we cannot complain about BD player prices too much now, but I still have issues with prices of BD movies and the slow backfilling of catalog titles though.

Ok, after doing some research, from what i understand, the BD 35 can do all of the HD audio decoding or I can send it bitstream and the Receiver can do the decoding.

Is there any advantage to get a PS3 at $200 bucks more? I haven't read anything that compares thes PS3 upscaling against the 35K. I also read that the PS3 can be quite loud. There is also the fact that the PS3 is wireless and I can update firmware easier but that isn't as big of a deal for me.

I won't lie to you. The PS3 is an excellently manufactured machine. It is ugly, but it does what it is supposed to do and at high rate of speed. If you have no desire for WiFi, gaming, or picture/video storage then I would just go with the BD35.
