My Sony KV-34HS420 Controls Confuse Me!

I'm at the point of pulling my hair out!

I decided to change from the HDMI in put to the YpB input to watch HD content.
HDMI is mode 7...and the YPB or whatever its called is at mode 5 and 6.But when I plug in 5 or 6 and connect to my satelite receivers YpB...
I get No picture in those modes! It is so Frustrating !

I go to the menu through my Sony tv remote...I go to auto channel and try to select the different modes...there's just snow and no picture..if i try to have the YPB connected instead of the HDMI.
You have to be a rocket scientist to figure out how to program this tv!!! I looked over the manual and even went to Sony style.com's website to talk to a sony tech...am still confused.

Also,I bought this tv thinking it had 16:9 screen selection...but when I read the directions it said the KV-34HS420 does'nt have 16:9.
false advertising at the Sony website and Circuit city websites then.
they give false written information saying this tv DOES have a 16:9 screen. BS !!!!

It does have a 16:9 screen - you shouldn't have to select it, just make sure the Screen Mode is Full for watching HD programming and anamorphic DVDs, and Wide Zoom for watching 4:3 SD.

Perhaps you have to select the component output on your Dish receiver?

Seems like the component outputs might have to be turned on...

I dont own an 811, so maybe its just saying that you cant use both at the same time. Sony's are awfully easy to use if your just the slightest bit inclined to learn.

Also, according to the 811 Manual, it would be helpful to reconnect using DVI, change the output of the 811 to 480p, then connect via component. Once you confirm a component connection at 480p, then increase the resolution and go from there.

And that monitor is 16:9 Widescreen by design, I believe in the Menu under Setup, 16:9 options are Auto or On, I just leave mine on Auto. If set to On, its going to stretch non-widescreen material, which is ugly in my opinion. These aren't 'modes'... you are switching to view the signal from various input ports. From your results, it sounds like your are viewing your TV's tuner - which isn't hooked to anything. You need to change INPUTS not CHANNELS.

As blue_tech says, make sure you have REMOVED your DVI cable before attempting to use Component (Y/Pr/Pb)
