It SHOULD show LPCM when the player does the decoding like the HD DVD players do.

But with your S350 it does not decode them so it is really standard DD/DTS that you are seeing unless your receiver can decode the HD audio codecs. Does your receiver have the HD audio decoders in it?

Either way, with the A2 you are seeing exactly what you are supposed to see on the receiver because the A2 is doing the decoding. You ARE getting HD DtHD & DD+ with it how you have it setup. With the HDMI set to AUTO it should just send the bitstream of the standard DD/DTS from any SD DVD discs you play in it though.

i'm sorry i was"nt clear i meant how do i get true hd,DD+,DTS hd high resolution,and dts hd master audio ,etc to show on my sony str-dg820(7.1) receiver..when i watch my hd dvd player A2..the A2 does let u choice true hd,DD+,DTS hd high resolution,and dts hd master audio ,but the receiver(sony dg820) shows Linear PCm[ 48].

My receiver does decode all those formats true hd,DD+,DTS hd high resolution,and dts hd master audio and it shows when i play blue rays on sony 350.

now when i had my onkyo 604 both hd and blue ray players showed muti channel,because the onkyo 604 did'nt decode those hd formats,so those audio types were sent from the players.

With your A2 you MUST have the player do the decoding because it cannot pass the HD undecoded bistream as it does not have a HDMI version 1.3 transmitter in it. They came out after the player was made. AFAIK, the only HD DVD players that allowed the HD audio to be bitstreamed is the XA2 & A35.

Just so you know. You ARE getting the HD audio with the A2, but it is just showing up in the signal mode it goes to the receiver as. I wouldn't worry about it since you can always hit the A2 info button to have it show which codec is playing to make sure you are listening to the HD soundtrack.

If you just want the DtHD or DD+ light on your receiver to light up, then you will have to find either a XA2 or A35 that you can buy used since AFAIK the new ones are all gone from the stores. If you think getting that light for the HD audio is worth it, then you will have to pull out your wallet with about 2 bills or more I would guess. Is it really worth it just to have the HD audio light on your receiver light up, when you already ARE getting HD audio? Only YOU can answer that question. ;)

96 = greater audio bandwidth.
