KV32XBR400 newbie questions.

Hello all, Ive been on this forum for a few days now, and the wealth of information here is just awesome.

I currently own a Sony KV32XBR400 that I purchased new about 4 years ago and it is starting to show its age. I'd love to purchase a new set but what I want right now is a bit out of my grasp.

For one thing, is there any way to clean up the digital artifacts I get while watching DishNetwork broadcasts? Better cables maybe?

Second, when perfectly square onscreen menus are present, whether from a gamebox, the receiver, or whatever...the bottom edge of those menus bows/warps upward slightly. This has just happened in the last year or so. Also, the far right side of the monitor has some white tinting to it when a pitch black background is present. Most people dont notice, but I do.

Can I clean up these image anomalies through the service menus? In general, the picture has gotten a little fuzzy compared to new, and I'd like to know if its possible to do a "tune-up" on my set. I still love the incredible picture, but you know, we want it perfect.

Give these folks a call as I am sure they can help with CRT lens cleaning and repositioning and any other tune-ups your TV may need.
Hope this is helpful.

If you're seeing digital artifacts, the problem lies in your STB, not the TV. What make & model Dish STB do you have? What type of cabling?

Many of your other issues can be cleared up by a good calibrator using your service menus... don't go playing in there without knowing what you're doing - you can break you TV by adjusting to a point where you get no image & can no longer see the menus to adjust them.

I've got the 522 Dual Tuner DVR. I'll have to double check but I think I'm using my Acoustic Research Composite A/V cables right now.

I originally tried using the DishNet supplied S-Video cable which was worse than my A/V cables. The picture had evenly spaced dots rolling across the screen and looked rather awful.

Then I tried my premium S-Video cable that is on my DVD player which looks about the same as my good A/V cables. Good color and enough detail to show the pixelation and "chunky" digital effects. Maybe this is something I will have to live with on an HD monitor that is forced to display SD???

I compromised and put the A/V cables on the STB, and put my S-Vid back on the DVD player since I want that picture to be the best.

Are some DishNet receivers better than others? With the exception of the HDTV models...

Thnx for the info! That site is awesome.

And oh yes, I will read as much as I can before I mess with those menus, I managed to get into "service mode" and I was able to scroll through the options, at least 100+ parameters there, and many more that I probably did not see!

Ok, got that wrong...

Using a DishNet supplied S-Vid cable for the STB.

Using a premium S-Vid cable for DVD.

Using AR composite cables for VCR.

Last night I swapped out the S-Vids and no improvement.

I reckon the HD monitor is just going to show the "crap" in the SD signal. Although, my old 301 sure seemed to give a much cleaner picture (better decoder?). I wish I still had it to try out... I think I can snag a 301 Refurb for 60 bux, that might be my fix. Come to think of it, I used composite cables on the 301 and it looked better than what I have now.

Also, i believe I have determined that I need some magnet work to correct my "warping" issues, any feedback on this? Possible for one to do this themselves?
