Samsung TX-R2765 vs Sanyo HT27745 vs ?
Hello. I am looking for a low cost HDTV.

I came across Samsung TX-R2765 and Sanyo HT27745. Samsung TX-R2765 is right now $427 at Circuit City and Sanyo HT27745 is $447 at WalMart from the postings Ive read.

Are there any other models out in this pricerange as well to look at. The price is slightly outside my budget however Im waiting for a pricedrop as these are new models just on the market. My Pricerange is actually $400 max and the Samsung may be available for such since its only at 2 dealers now (Sears and Circuit City with Circuit City not having them at stores yet, just online.)

What concerns me is that the sound on the samsung is weak in the sense that it doesnt have SRS Surround, or BBE or any sound enhancements.

Anyone know if the 2004 model of Samsung is better, the TX-P2764, because they still have some left and some years the product is actually a cost cut to bring down price rather than a better product. TX-R2765 uses a 4H comb filter while the older one uses a Pro picture 3 stage, 3 line comb.
Anyone know the difference and which is better?

Right now Im leaning samsung but Im still waiting for any other new models that may come out or ones I have missed or even pricedrops on some existing models.

Big difference -- Samsung is just a monitor, while the Sanyo includes digital and analog tuners. Do you need to receive over-the-air? If so, the Sanyo may be the only thing in your price range. Sanyo also introduced a 28-inch widescreen at the same time (HT28745). In the long run, you might like that more, because more and more programming is going to that format, but it stretches your budget -- $547.

You really should buy a widescreen... it's a required part of the ATSC digital TV spec, while narrowscreen is the outgoing analog NTSC standard.

From what I've read on these Boards/Forums...Samsung makes a low quality LOUSY product.

Samsung makes a very broad product line... like anyone, not everything is fantastic. Sammy does sell more DLPs than ALL other manufacturers combined... and their LCD fab is worldclass. I'm not a big fan of their CRTs, but then I'm not a fan of CRTs generally...

 Samsung's newest Slim Fit 30 inch widescreen CRT is an HDTV with a built-in HD tuner.Has a 16.5 inch back.
Someone on these boards told me they went to a Circuit City Store in person to look at the picture on this tv..and said it pushed red and the quality of the picture was fair.

Red push can be calibrated out, an issue that isn't correctable is the possible elongation of the pixels at the extreme sides of the image, due to the extreme angle the electron beams must make to the screen. Article about this in the May Scientific American... next gen sets may scan vertically rather than horizontally, since it's the shorter axis & won't have the extreme angle issue... this would require full frame digital memory to reformat each frame to vertical scanning.
