Can someone tell me what the per cent meter calibration is? ie what is the full scale(100%) equal to in db.

They changed it this summer so no one really knows. I believe 100% to now be the upper limit no matter how strong the signal.

The OTA signal strength has always been a straight forward %.

Except when your 100% local suddenly gives you the yellow box and tells you the signal strength has been lost....:banghead:

These DVRs are so good....so why did they put a crappy OTA tuner in them?

The maximum % I ever got was 85, and it will break up below 65.

I lose my signal occasionally but that is because I opted for an indoor antenna instead of one in the attic or outdoor. That is my long range plan when i have the $.

You would have to ask the technical department at Dish or JVC (the manufacturer).

i was getting lost signals and highs aroun 80 i decided to make this today .its ugly but cheap.and works great .i put it up in my attic moved around until i got a good signal and screwed it to the rafters and now im getting 100 on all locals except one its around 85.took about a hour to make .the hardest part is running you coaxe in the wall.

thanks for the answers-even though none answered the question asked. They put a crappy OTA tuner(as 1 referred to) in because many areas dont get HD local channels and the OTA digital improves local channels immensely!

Well...not that immensely. There may be some improvement from less compression, but it's not huge.
As for the rest of you, I have an outdoor antenna in my attic and get several 100% stations and some 85%+ stations. My yellow box errors (signal lost) come apparently at random. No storms, sunspots or alien landings needed. Just a tuner that evidently decides it needs to fart. And for some strange reason, my Bravia tuner never does that.....

P.S. Sorry willy60, I don't know the decibels.

I've found the Dish OTA tuners to be better than some TV tuners........

Some TV tuners are very bad indeed.

I think the Dish OTA tuner in my 722 is great. I have an external antenna on the roof (where it should be) and I get 95-100 % on all my locals. I never got that high of signal strenght with the Sony DVR I was using even though i still think it's a awsome machine. If you have drop outs you'd be better off reading the OTA forum and improving your antenna system. The guys on there are great. That's where I started and I learned so much that I no longer have to blame poor reception on the tuner being used. There are a LOT of variables to consider. Good Luck. :2cents
