I am new to the forum and relatively new to home thearter sound. I purchased a Kenwood HTB-505 system back in '02 or '03. I really didn't know what I was buying at the time. I just purchased a 52" Samsung LCD and want to get a quality sound system to compliment the TV. My plan is to get a new reciever so that I can take advantage of the many HDMI options available today. I was looking into the Onkyo TX-SR606. I am not sure on the quality of the speakers that came in the Kenwood kit. Does anyone know if these will be compatible, (for now), or do these totally suck?

First, welcome to the forum.
Your choice in the Onkyo TX-SR606 is a good one as it is a highly rated surround sound receiver, has many options and sounds darn good as well.
Now the speakers, I'm sure they will work but you would be better served by replacing them as well. There are many options available and I will give you a few suggestions. Since you have a nice TV and are going to have a nice receiver, it would be best to get some nice speakers so you can enjoy all that HD has to offer.

these would sound nice at a reasonable price.

these would sound much better.

these would be primo and make your system sound spectacular. (The best of the bunch and my preference for your system)
Whatever you decide, do yourself a favor and don't skimp o the speakers as they are every bit as important as the TV and receiver.

Loves2Watch,
Thanks for the response. I do plan to upgrade speakers in the near future, but was thinking I would use what I had for a bit. I am considering the Polk Monitor 50's with Monitor 30's for surround and the matching center speaker. Is this a good setup?

Using your current speakers for a bit would be just fine for now. The Polk's are pretty nice but I think the Def. Techs. I linked would sound much, much better. Sound is in the ear of the beholder though so the choice is ultimately yours.
Hope this helped.

Just want to through my 2 cents in here
I have the 606 set up with some Wharfedale Diamond 9 series speakers and they sound amazing. Won't break the bank either. Less than $1000
Audition as many speakers as you can. Like Loves2Watch said choose what sounds best to your own ears. Some people like crisper sounds and some people like warmer sounds. Ultimately I think the more dynamic the speaker the more likely everyone will like it. Though, more dynamic usually means more $$

I second that as my Monitor series speakers sound excellent. Not sure if they are within the OP's budget though.
