attaching indoor antenna question

I just got the winegard SS-3000 indoor antenna. Now we have our local channels through cable and wanted the antenna to view them in HD. Do I connect it to t he TV any in (air) or to the over the air on the dish box? I did try both ways and the picture doesn't look any better either way. If there's not going to be a difference I need to send this antenna back.

It's digital TV. There should not be a great difference in picture quality. Having an OTA antenna does allow you to use the third tuner. This allows you to watch locals while recording two sat. channels, or to record 3 channels at once (2 sat. and 1 local). It builds in a lot of flexibility.

I was under the impression that those local channels I was getting in HD before we switched to Dish and now don't get in HD, that I would have HD quality again if I had an antenna. Then I just wasted my money? Guess I'll send it back. I'm not interested in recording anything, just want to watch ABC, CBS, and NBC back in HD again.

Which Dish receiver are you using? Is the tv in question an HDTV and does it have a digital tuner?

Are you asking what model from dish network? TV is HDTV and yes it has a digital tuner.

Yes, which model Dish receiver are you trying to use? Need to know that so to give you accurate info as to setup. As far as the tv, there could be a separate input or some type of setup screen you need to use to scan the channels in as HD off the OTA antenna or there may be a screen you need to use to correct the resolution. You could of had the tv scan in the analog version in which case the channels could look worse than the sd channels by Dish or your cable. OTA HD should be the best signal since there is a lot less compression used to deliver them to you. You should also make sure you are viewing an HD program.

VIP 211k dish receiver. I did manage to get NBC in HD by doing what the dish over the air setup said to do. No CBS channels came up in it. I attached the antenna to the over the air on the receiver but I couldn't get the channels to work. I put the antenna back on (air) on the TV and on the TV remote select antenna and those channels that came up on the dish local channel scan are there. Any suggestions on how to get CBS?

Check out either antennaweb.org or tvfool.com and put in your info. The antenna may not be placed right or the right type to get you what you want.

I have been doing that and according to both sites I should be able to get WLMO-LP but I can't.

You may need a different indoor or outdoor antenna.

yeah I was afraid of that. I'm sending this one back. Not worth $60 for only one channel.

Just be aware that the Dish DVR OTA tuners are mediocre at best. You may get better results with your TV tuner directly.

If you mean attaching the antenna on the TV air I already did that and on the dish receiver, both only give me one channel

18 is means you may receive more channels by hooking the ota antenna directly to the tv and see if that tuner is better than the Dish receiver.
