It is not your equipment but the broadcast. Call Dish and complain.

Hotrod,
After having Dish replace THREE of my HD receivers, I finally got them to admit that they are having an audio problem with HD receivers and programming.

It will especially occur if you are getting your Audio and Video signals from the HDMI output of your receiver AND if the sound settings on your receiver are set to Dolby OR Dolby/PCM.

The bottom line is that, if you are using the HDMI output, you cannot get Dolby digital sound from HD channels which are transmitted from Satellite 119 (which nearly 1/2 of all your stations are!).

To temporarily (until Dish gets a software fix) correct the problem, to into your Menu until you get to the Dolby settings (usually,. Menu,6, 7). Then, select PCM only.

Unfortunately, PCM only delivers very basic stereo and does not deliver 5.1 Dolby sound that is basically HD sound.

Last, when Dish tells you, and all of us that they are delivering Turbo HD, don't believe it. They're only delivering HD video and are unable to deliver the Dolby 5.1 audio that should be with it.
Best Regards,
Kent

Almost nothing is on the 119 satellite in HD. Just a few DMA's (Oklahoma City, San Francisco and Birmingham, AL is all I believe) and nothing national.

I am in the NYC DMA and the sound is fine on all channels. Just some are louder than others.
