Snip:
About 15 percent of U.S. households use only analog TV sets and could risk their screens going black as analog signals are turned off, according to the Government Accountability Office, a congressional watchdog group. Owners of analog televisions must buy a TV converter box to receive a digital signal.

They've been heavily advertising it for almost a year now but I'm sure on the news the first day the analog goes off they'll be reports of tons of people that are clueless about the analog being switched off.
My TV doesn't work !!
What happened ?
What's that you say ? I have to a converter box ? No one told me about this !!
My TV worked fine yesterday !! Why do I need a converter box ?

The sad part is you are absolutely right. Didn't I see the story a few months ago about a small market in North Carolina or somewhere agreed to be the test market for the government to see how things went. People were freakin' out and complaining they couldn't watch tv anymore. Some people did have digital converters but didn't know how to hook them up so firemen were going house to house hooking them up for people.
Man this is going to be a nightmare!
EDIT: Found one of many articles about Wilmington, North Carolina switching to Digital early.

Why do that when the world is in your own living room on the TV set. Going to be fun to see how many victims go crazy as no one has enforce this major change.

There's even some idiot people at work saying it's being done just to force people to go out and buy a new TV or buy a converter box. Some dumbass has a theory that the TV manufacturers are paying the government to do it so the TV manufacturers can get richer.

Tell them the theory is to force people away from TV and go outside. There is a whole world out. ;)
