DVI / HDMI Conversion

I realize that they have been covered before, but I am new, so I'll ask.

I have an older JVC projection HDTV, with a DVI connection, and STB, AVR are HDMI. Is it better to use a cable with DVI / HDMI on the ends, or an HDMI to HMDI cable with a HDMI/DVI converter connection attached to the TV?

Currently I use the cable coverter (DVI/HDMI on the ends), but might change, if the HDMI cable with the DVI converter attached to the TV would be an improvement.

Thanks.

I can't see how changing would make any visible difference. As HDMI IS DVI with sound added, there is no conversion going on but rather just a gender change at the connect point (HDMI to DVI).

Thanks Love, that's kind of what I thought, but I am always open to improving if I can.

In any case, I would think the cable you are using to be better as there less connection points hence less contact points/adapters to cause problems.

Glad I could help.

my cable box is hooked up to my hdtv via component right now. the thing is the box only has dvi on it... and my tv dont have dvi, only hdmi. so it should look better if i do this conversion thing and hook up the dvi out of the box and convert it into hdmi into my tv...

The picture won't look any better so I don't see any reason to change it when in fact the HDMI to DVI conversion may not work due to HDCP issues, in your case.

i just hate it when theres alot of movement on the picture, it gets pixelated...

i did try this tho, watched a movie from my ps3. only i switched the output to 1080i instead of 1080p. and i didnt see much difference. so i was thinking maybe the component cable was causing the pixelation (considering its analog not digital) on the cable box.

No, it wouldn't be the cable, that is unless it is bad which I rather doubt. It may be the cable box or it could be the TV.
