Tried to get it but was told that I must wait until February. The package is only for new subscribers. Is there a savings and, if so, do you think DISH will forgo it's " HD Only" package because of it's financial effect on the balance sheet?

Who knows really. I too will probably go the the all HD package in February. I'm just waiting and hoping that they will add a few more channels to it................curious as to what they will charge for it. Will have to wait and see.

I've had the HD only silver package for slightly over a week now and I'm very pleased with it. I just switched over from DirecTV so I was able to go with the Turbo package as a new customer. The SD versions of everything you are signed up for in HD are also available ( in addition to about 5-10 more SD channels that I don't really watch). DTV was very inflexable (wanted to charge me to upgrade my equipment to HD capable after being a 5-yr customer) and would not provide an HD only package.
I'm not a big tv watcher and when I do it's mostly sports/history/discovery channels. They were included in the package. I was paying $55/month for no HD & no DVR with DTV and thanks to the silver turbo package I get both features & save $10/month. I've got the ViP 612 as we only have 1 tv in the house. Connected via HDMI and everything is very solid, and the picture/sound is great.
It's only been a week and I'm a DVR believer now. I'll be researching options for an external Harddrive for extra space. Considering networkable storage.

If I ever have to switch to turbo, there certainly won't be a savings for me. I have absoluteHD for $29.99 which is turbo gold + platinum. It would cost me another $20 per month for the same programming. I'm sure its coming eventually though.
