I am having great difficulties getting MY Onkyo 805 receiver to work with
Panasonic Blu ray palyer DMP 30, and older Mitsubishi ws65813. The audio works but the picture is scrabled. I have a HDMI to DVI into the MIts tv from the player and none of the HDMI inputs work from the player to the TV. I can however use the player itself connected out HDMI to DVI to TV directly.
I can't figure out why the ONKYO receiver cannot process/covert the signals correctly when wired through the receiver. ANy help would be most appreciated.

I am confused with the above. Do you mean you have the BD player connected directly to the TV or to the Onkyo?
Your next remark
I can however use the player itself connected out HDMI to DVI to TV directly.
however leads me to believe that you mean that you have done the following
Connected the Player to the Onkyo by using a HDMI cable
Then connected a HDMI cable from the Onkyo (Make sure to use the HDMI Ouput port!!!) to the TV but needed a HDMI/DVI switch to actually connect it to the TV
Right??
If so it should work. Apparently it doesnot
Have you tried if the TV is able to work as a display for the ONKYO this way.
Setting up the Onkyo means that you must be able to see what you are actually doing. If that works fine on then the connection between the Onkyo and Tv are by itself OK.

I've had the same issue, looking for the same answers...
I have a Panasonic DMP50 with and Onkyo TR805. My TV is an older Sony model which is 1080i with DVI and component inputs. I connected the receiver to the TV using an HDMI to DVI converter. When I initially hooked up to the Onkyo via HDMI I received sound, but no picture. I set the HDMI mode to 'auto' rather than 'pass-through' which allowed me to see picture, but the quality of image was not as good as when I hooked up the DMP30 directly to the TV (using the HDMI to DVI adapter). Panasonic says the incompatibility is because of Onkyo's Faroudja upconverting chip. I have yet to hear back from Onkyo.
So I am currently going from the blu-ray to the TV via HDMI/DVI (with sound going to the receiver separately via optical connection) and the receiver to the TV using component connections. It seems that the receiver cannot take an HDMI and convert to component, so I have to go out of the satellite box via component rather than HDMI. So my system is working ok for now, but I'd rather find a more elegant solution....
