psssms 10-13-2008, 03:08 PM Just curious if I am making the right decision here. The price difference is about 10 dollars a month in favor for Uverse (I currently have AT&T DSL service). I watch alot of hd sports and hd programming. The kids watch alot of SD programming. Generally 80% of our tv watching occurs on our 50" Panasonic 720P set in the living room. Picture quality is an issue for me since I probably watch more tv than I should. I can live without the sport packages and some of the dvr shortcomings, but picture quality is something that I cannot negotiate on. I would like to know if there are any DBS converters to Uverse (especially HD), and what are there opinions (especially on the picture quality end).
Potential install date: 28-OCT-2008
SanDiegoPaul 11-03-2008, 10:12 AM So was it installed? I just ordered it myself as an upgrade to the same setup yhou had - the ATT DSL and Dish.
JustJumpingIn 12-01-2008, 03:45 PM I noticed you both recently made the jump from dish to bundle with ATT Hispeed dsl.
just placed my order to switch from directTV...tired of bad weather break up...
anyway, wanting to see how you've like it so far?

I'm in the uptown area of Dallas. LOVE U-verse. It knocks Time Warner out of the water. I haven't had satellite so I can't compare it to that, but I think you'll be really pleased overall.
rbinck 12-01-2008, 06:42 PM I had a hard time determining if they had U-verse or the Dish Network package ATT sells. U-verse is been very, very good to me.
bunnyville 12-06-2008, 03:58 PM I've only had my U-verse service for a couple of weeks, but I think I'd take my Dish back if I could. There are so many things usability-wise that Dish had figured out (after listening to the forums) that ATT doesn't yet. They're annoying.
The broadband vs DSL is light years better, but I can't say I like the changes in the TV service over Dish yet. At least on Dish I could record 2 HD shows at the same time. I do like having local weather on-demand, though.

A. Uverse broadband IS dsl.
B. You CAN record 2 HD at once.
Flipsonic 12-08-2008, 04:10 PM I converted from DN to Uverse and never looked back. I live in Northern California and have had Uverse for 6 months now. The Uverse PQ is better in my opinion. And that includes SD channels. My only reservation before the switched was I am losing some HD channels I like to watch. I switched anyway. Now, I have those channels back and more. I understand more is coming in the future. So if I were you, I'd pull the trigger and switch to U.
bunnyville 12-09-2008, 05:01 PM greatmazinga,
A. I suppose it is DSL in an outward way. However, when I got DSL 3 years ago, they didn't have to come and rewire the network box and put in all new outlet boxes.
B. No, I can't. I can view/record whatever, only 1 HD program at one time. I won't be able to view/record more than 1 HD event at a time until they upgrade the repeater hut.
rbinck 12-09-2008, 09:21 PM U-verse is DSL. They have to reconnect your phone lines to the VRAD. They send via fiber to the VRAD then copper to your house. The same copper that was connecting your phone line.
If you have the 1HD-3SD profile, it must mean you are pretty far from the VRAD.
preludef71 12-18-2008, 02:58 PM i too am considering switching from dish network to u-verse and i have my concerns. i am very concerned about not being able to record 3 HD shows at one time (the two satellite tuners and the OTA antenna on my DN receiver). i like the ability to 30 sec skip.
it seems as though there are some people who can record 2 HD and 2 SD vs. people who can record 1 HD vs. 3 HD.
as for quality and channels, both seem pretty equal.
i do like the multi-room feature from u-verse and the ability to schedule recordings over the internet.
i am also an at&t dsl subscriber so packaging u-verse with dsl is also an option.
just very torn in making my decision and would like any additional input anyone can provide.
Thanks!

I was a long time Dishnetwork subscriber and I can't really say I was disappointed with it. The pros with Dish were that you could have more than one DVR. It would be nice to be able to hit the record button instead of going to the room with the DVR...
The programming options and price were a huge factor in my case. The PQ looks great - the internet is way better than RoadRunner.

There is no comparing the two. My network connection is faster for my computers (4), and my TV is so much easier to use!
There is no denying the software in the Dish setup absolutey stinks. And their hardware is buggy at best. In two years I went thru four HD DVR units. And the menu system as I said a second ago, is horrendous!
ATT U-Verse is kick butt. I'm 5 weeks in so far, and wow am I impressed.

I had Dish and the DSL combo. I now have AT&T and it kick some serious butt!!! Picture quality rocks better. Even standard picture quality is way better from AT&T. There is no contract to sign either. I never go back.
