Turbo HD clarification

Hi all.... I'm new to the forum and have searched all the threads regarding Dish Network's Turbo HD, but I still have a question or two.

When Dish Network says that Turbo HD is 100% HD do they mean that each channel is HD capable or do they mean that every show on every channel will be broadcasted in HD? For example, the NFL network is currently an HD channel, but many of the shows do not come in HD; they have the black side bars on each side of the screen. For the past year and a half I have had the top 250 + HD package. I'm a little confused as to whether the Turbo HD is just a new marketing campaign for the same package I already have or if it is actually something different than the programming I have now.

Any clarification here would be greatly appreciated!

It's a new marketing campaign, there is frequently a VOD movie put on in 1080p. That is all.

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, I called Dish and spoke with a customer service rep and I was amazed and the inaccurate info he was spewing. I basically asked him the same question that I asked in this post and he told me that everything would be 100% HD except for movies or shows that were not originally recorded in HD. He said they would be broadcast in HD, but the picture would not be HD because it was not filmed in HD........ :confused::confused::confused:

I then gave him the example of the NFL network in which current broadcasts come in SD even though the NFL network is an HD channel. He said that these shows would be in HD. I let him know that some of these shows still come out in 4:3 ratio with black bars on the screen. He said that Turbo HD could not change the aspect ratio, but the shows are indeed in HD. :lol::lol::lol::lol: Yeah, right!

You are absolutely correct in that Turbo HD is nothing more than a marketing campaign. It basically allows new customers to get a package of nothing but HD channels, that may or may not broadcast particular shows in HD. In other owrds, new customers can get the same HD channels that we have been getting all along in an HD specific package without being forced to buy all the other crap channels they force on you in the top 150,200, and 250 packages.

So I guess their new 8PSK-Turbo code that they use "to stream more data to your satellite receiver at a faster image processing rate, which results in a superior picture and sound", is only applicable for the 1080p VOD feature? They don't do a very good job clarifying this on their website and commercials. They certainly try to lead you to believe that this technology is used to give you 100% HD even on shows that were not originally broadcasted in HD.

What a sham!:mad::mad:
