Amazon has Denon 888 on sale $375. I was originally considering Onkyo 606 for about same price. Need some opinions on these two.
Thanks

Thanks Joe The general feeling here would lean toward the Onkyo unit having more features at that price, I personally believe the Denon higher end products are a better unit in both quality and sound reproduction, but in the price range your looking I would definitely go ONKYO unotis 10-10-2008, 02:54 PM I personally would go for the Onkyo 606 over the Denon AVR 888. My preference is the Denon AVR 2807 Amazon has it for a little over $550.00 But, the Onkyo is a very good AVR and has double the HDMI inputs of the previous Onkyo 605 (2 versus 4). warrencres 10-10-2008, 03:29 PM I have had the 606 for a while now and am extremely pleased with the product. Stories of heat issues and low level hum are to be found on the net but I personally have had no issue. Combined with my A2 and other components, it has proven a very capable receiver at the price point. I agree that the high end Denons offer quite a good product; but, for the price, the Onkyo is hard to beat. The multiple HDMI inputs really help. The onlyshortcoming, if you can call it that, is the 1080i upconverting; however, it can upconvert ALL sources to 1080i so it is a minor problem for me. Never realized how good those old Star Wars VHS tapes could look or sound. Also, just wait until you hear true uncompressed audio - it will make you smile from ear to ear!! :);):);) The_Omega_Man 10-10-2008, 03:35 PM I have had the 606 for a while now and am extremely pleased with the product. McIntosh is another great high end brand but like i said it comes at the price of features, funny thing is Denon is part of that family of brands. high end denon receivers i have found to be better then comparably price Yamaha receivers. they make great high end stuff. the best advice of all is compare them for yourself. not all receivers sound the same. at first i hated Denon but then i heard my 4308CI and have loved Denon every since. the best thing to do is walk into a store with A/B switching and listen to each receiver. some will sound clear while others may sound more balanced. some will seems to add a little extra while others will not lose or gain anything in the sound. | |
