Hi all,
Been wrestling with this for a while. Searching the net for an answer has given me quite the headache. Was hoping someone could help out.

I use a Samsung LN4061 as my primary PC monitor connecting through VGA. The Vista interface shows up fine at 1080p.

However as soon as i try to load a game the screen goes blank giving the "Can't detect signal" message. I can hear the sounds fine showing the pc has loaded the game but it just doesnt show up on the screen.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

thats a 40" LCD TV right? It has a native resolution of 1920x1080 probably.

sounds like a resolution issue.

The Vista desktop can handle 1920x1080. It's possible your game is trying to display at 1920x1200, or some other resolution that your HDTV doesn't support. The problem might have a lot to do with the different aspect ratios (16:9 versus 16:10). I think a lot of games prefer 16:10. What games are you trying to play that give you this problem? Is it all of them?

If you happen to have access to a regular monitor, try opening the game and setting it to a resolution that your HDTV supports, then try again on the HDTV.

Thanks for the quick response Dexter. It is an LCD and I think you're probably right it is a resolution issue.

I managed to Ctrl+Alt+Delete out of the game (blank screen) and it popped me back out to the desktop at which the TV picks up the signal again and everything is fine.

The game involved is Warhammer Online. Its actually the first game i've tried on this setup even though Ive had the TV for a year (busy at work). I unfortunately do not have a separate monitor (thats what i bought the TV for :( ).

Hence my search for a solution....any ideas welcome.

i'm not sure if it is possible with that game, but have you tried getting it to windowed mode, out of full screen? (Alt+Enter)

Yup, tried Alt+Enter, no luck :(.
Thanks for the suggestion though
