Hey everyone
After all the advice i received on this wonderful forum i have now finally ordered my new tv. The Samsung LE37A656 1080p.. and well looking forward to it arriving.
Couple of questions i have..
1) I use my laptop currently to watch a lot of movies and tv episodes, some normal dvd rips and some x264. I only have a VGA output from my laptop, so what would be the best way to connect it to my tv to receive the best picture and sound?
2) I am thinking about delaying my move to Blu Ray for a little while, so the question i have is about HD DVD.. how much difference would you say to a normal DVD rip for example? 50% improvement for example? and what would you say the difference in quality is between HD DVD and Blu Ray?
Oh, and one more quickie lol.. i know my tv is 1080p and 100hz, but it is NOT 24p.. WTF is 24p?
Thanks in advance for your opinions and answers.

I don't know for sure if this would work but you could do a VGA to DVI and then a DVI to HDMI. That should be cheap. Look up the individual adapters.

Hey Matty

You're going to spend about 50 bucks or so if you do this. What you will need is the following:
1 DVI to VGA adapter
1 HDMI to DVI adapter
1 HDMI to HDMI connector to connect the HDMI of the above adapter to an HDMI HDTV.
Also, since you're laptop is VGA you're not going to be able to send any audio over that connection even if it ends with HDMI.

I assume you're in the UK since this is a European model? It does have a PC input so you should be fine with a DSub connector from your laptop to the TV.
As for the quality of HD-DVD, it is 6 times the resolution of standard DVD and looks the same as Blu ray.

Hey
Thanks for the reply.. that sounds ok enough.. at least i know what i need to get now and it that it is possible. I can do that for the video and then run 3.5 jack connection from my headphones socket to either my tv or surround sound when i get it.

The D Sub connector is the VGA connector.
24p is 24 frames per second, the standard for movies. Many TV's can only do 60p which is OK since they do 3:2 pulldown which in other words makes up/adjusts for them not having 24p. Not a big deal, at least for me and most others. Unless you are a videophile I doubt you would even notice the difference.
