Sorry to hear that. Have you tried running the data side of the disc under very hot water for about 1 minute? That mat help!

Good luck!

And have you tried deleting the persistent storage? This helps in many cases.

I found 300 to be the most finicky HD DVD title I ever bought. I would get that a couple of times, but then the next time I'd try it (later after powering off the player for a few minutes...then returning it on) the thing ran just fine...

The last few times I've tried to load 300, it has done so just fine.

I was not aware of a newer 4.0 firmware release. I've never had a problem with 300 HD DVD/DVD combo disc along with the regular HD DVD single version.

I updated my HD-A35 and my HD-A3 to firmware 4.0. Believe it or not my A3 updated no problem. But it wouldn't update to 2.0 or 3.0, it was stuck on 1.1 for a long wile. Toshiba obviously did something right

I really never had a problem with either player, they both played anything I threw at them before the update, so I will see how things work out with the new 4.0.

Have you noticed better upscaling of standard DVD's, elimination of jaggies etc? I have.

Has anyone here found the ISO file for 4.0? When I google "HD-A3 firmware 4.0" it takes me to the right page but there is no "download" tab anywhere!

I was just going to post a link to my post for ALL the updates to all the players I posted in the sticky thread. I will still post the link so others with other models can find them here:

This may sound like a stupid question, but how do you burn the ISO with EZ CD Creator 5? It keeps telling me that the extracted file is not a valid ISO file.

It sounds like you got a corrupted download. I would try downloading the file again.

In today's mail I received the firmware disk from Toshiba and I upgraded my firmware and noticed quickly the improvement in the rendering of the upscaling of text on regular DVDs. Formerly I had seen blurry letters, for example in subtitles, but today I noticed clear letters. It is hard to assess other improvements, although I was thinking that Toshiba may have shared with us the improved upscaling that they claim to have with their new upscaling DVD player XD-E500.
