is the premium HD cable worth buying?aspen 09-28-2008, 08:12 AM is it worth spending the extra bucks on the 'monster cable' to hook up the digital box to the tv? these cables run from 15 bucks to over a hundred (can) tia, rick Loves2Watch 09-28-2008, 09:23 AM The answer is NO. Go to www.monoprice.com or bluejeanscable.com and get your cables there. No matter what any snake oil salesmen tell you any quality cable will do. For example you can purchase a 6' HDMI cable at monoprice for around $6 that will work just as well as a $250 Monster cable. ShaqDan 09-28-2008, 10:31 AM Don't waste your money. Anyone who tells you differently doesn't know what he is talking about. IdahoPhil63 09-28-2008, 10:38 AM You just wont be as satisfied with lower grade is all. Im really suprised to see all the Monster haters on here. There are many other brands that cost ten times more than Monster, but they seem to be the target??? Ive been buying A/V equipment since 83, and have owned nearly every brand as well, including cables. Monster is the only one out of the dozen brands that have made a significant to huge difference for me. Everytime someone comes over and I do an a/b comparison, we're off to the store. I dont actually preach for Monster, just better cables than the ones usually supplied. But for me, its Monster and nothing else. aspen 09-28-2008, 01:55 PM thanks guys, lots to think about, huh? maybe i'll do some comparison shopping at the store before i buy. if i can tell the difference, i'll 'go for the gusto'. rick djbamber 09-28-2008, 02:03 PM I have purchased monster cables for my analog hookups a dozen years ago for my first home theater, and in my opinion they made a huge difference as opposed to using 18 gauge lamp cord on my speakers, and still does today. As far as today goes with HDMI cables, any cable will work well on a short run. I would spend MY money on better quality components, rather then paying inflated prices for "premium" cables if I was going to be using digital connections. I paid 3.00 for my second hdmi 6" cable. I dont have any problems with either one. BTW, the cables were brand new. Don't believe the hype. Don't believe the hype or placebo effect cause it just ain't so. Razor05 09-29-2008, 03:42 PM But if you shop carefully, you can get some good deals like on eBay for instance. I bought some Monster HDMI cables for 10 bucks. ;) GymBrat98 09-29-2008, 04:00 PM But if you shop carefully, you can get some good deals like on eBay for instance. I bought some Monster HDMI cables for 10 bucks. ;) I have one Monster cable, it's from my subby to my Yammy. It was on sale @ Amazon, and it only cost 4.00 more than the lesser name. I don't have issues with the quality of Monster, I have issue with the price. You got a good deal on Ebay, I got a good deal on Amazon Too pay over 200.00 for a HDMI is insane. A quality supplier, great return policy and helpful staff with the lowest prices. What more could a person want. Since all HDMI cables are made in China (yes even Belkin cables are sent to China to have the connector ends put on) and most in the same factory, Monster is no better than any other brand. Exactly, a person always has to check the seller's rep, feedback, etc. Doing a bit of background checking is well worth it. But hey, eBay is not for everyone. High end cables make zero difference in the digital realm and near zero difference in the analog realm. In short runs (<6ft) cheaper cables will do the exact same thing. High end cables are built very well and will be far more durable. I did buy a big box of AR cables off ebay for around $35. I went to BB and priced them at over $400 if bought individually at BB. Do not buy into the hype. hotrod351 10-07-2008, 02:36 PM i canceled mine. i realized i watched only 2 of the channels. | |
