WHDVR In Houston

Turned on today. Not really whole house DVR as you have to set the recordings at the DVR and the other STBs can only play what was recorded on the DVR. A better description of this service would be Whole House Player. My wife is going to love it.

How many hours can you record on your base dvr? Also, can you elect to add dvr's to other rooms or is just just the central unit?

The hours depend on whether you record SD or HD. The hard drive in the DVR is 160 gigabyte. It takes about 3 gig per hour for HD and less than 1 gig per hour for SD.

None of the cable or satellite DVRs are very good archive boxes, I use the Hauppauge 1212 HD-PVR Video Capture device for that. It allows me to record from my DVR to my computer.

Currently they only have a single central DVR available per account. Hopefully in the near future we will be able to connect an external drive for additional storage.
