Speaker setup

In the attached photo I have the bookshelf speakers behind the TV. I will be getting stands soon so they will be next to the TV. I can get 24" stands and the speakers will be the same level as they are now. Or I can get 31" stands. What would be better?

I cannot put the Center speaker anywhere else. I will get a sub later but no rear surrounds. I don't want to run the wire.

Keeping the speakers at the same height as they are now seems to be the best solution for you. Separation is the key and with stands you can move them apart (6' to 7') for a wider and better sound stage.

Thanks Loves2Watch. One question if you don't mind. Why do some subwoofers have a line level input? What does using it instead of speaker wires do for the sound quality?

Thanks Loves2Watch. One question if you don't mind. Why do some subwoofers have a line level input? What does using it instead of speaker wires do for the sound quality?

Line level inputs are generally used for receivers that have a dedicated subwoofer output that is not amplified, commonly referred to as a LFE output or port. This output lets the powered subwoofer amplify the signal (usually better than speaker level inputs, but that in itself is a whole other story as some subwoofers use both LFE and speaker level inputs) which in turn results in nice deep bass unaltered by the preamp or receiver. Most preamps and receivers have a level adjustment for the LFE output as well as a crossover frequency cutoff point. Most subs also have an adjustable crossover point so you can dial the subwoofer in to it's best performance.

Did that answer your question?

Yes that answers my question.
