Alright, the Cubs have clinched and will get to set their rotation. Will it make a difference this year? They look as good as anyone in the National League and have a nice 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation, something they have not had in the past.
The Bullpen has looked shaky lately but who’s in the national league hasn’t; hopefully the rest over the next week will help. Their still the Cubbies so nothing is for certain until they win.

Well, if history is any basis for a prediction, we already know the likely outcome for the Cubs during the playoffs. I was a fan during the 60's and watched the 69 collapse and was a big fan right up to the end of the Billy Williams, Ron Santo, Ferguson Jenkins, Glen Beckert, Don Kessinger, Randy Hundley era. The Ryne Sandberg team collapse against San Diego a couple of decades ago was painful to watch as well. The players have been very good for such poor results for many decades, starting with the Ernie Banks era, now the players don't look all that great and in fact have overachieved this year in my opinion. That might be best and give this team the best chance. I wouldn't bet on it however.

Now what? Now they have a 1 in 8 chance of winning the World Series (there are 8 teams in the playoffs and recent history has shown that 7 game series (much less 5) is not enough games to remove a significant portion of the luck factor). Good luck to the Cubs.

Fortunately for the Cubs, history has no basis in baseball anymore.

I can't see anyone in the NL beating the Cubs. But Zambrano has to pitch consistent or they won't last imo.

The Rangers made it to the playoffs several years, I think 96, 98 and 99, I was living in Dallas and watched quite a few games. The teams were pretty good, at least I thought they were, although I think they lost to the Yankees in the playoffs each year if my memory is correct. I do recall Juan Gonzalez had some great games in the playoffs, but nobody else did. Everybody has forgotten poor ole Juan, but he put up some huge numbers in the 90's. In hindsight, he looks like a steroid cheater as does Pudge, but that never crossed our minds then.
