Has anybody had real world experience with Toshiba's XDE dvd player on a 720p 50 inch plasma? I just noticed the ad on this website and they claim to make dvd's nearly HD quality? Is it all marketing hype again or is it as good as it sounds?

The XDE player seems to be a solid $150 DVD player. No more no less. Any other conclusions you should judge yourself by demoing the player.

Anybody can claim any DVD player is near HD quality, so that claim doesn't mean anything. What we do is that the player doesn't handle HD DVD and the question doesn't belong in this forum. We also know the XDE player isn't true HD and if you want a true HD disc player for your HDTV, Blu-ray is the best choice.

Your right, I posted in the wrong forum. It's just that as I was looking at this forum, the Toshiba XDE ad was flashing in my face so I thought I would post.

Nikopol, thanks for that link it's all I need :hithere: I backed up all my original DVD's and always use the back ups on my player, but now that I have a 50 inch plasma, I should have backed them on as dual layer which I did not, so now I am back to using my original dvd's in my player so that they looks crisp again on the large TV.
