Hdtv Hp Laptop And Vga

I have a Haier V6 HDTV Ready 1920x1080 and it has a Vga output
in the back and i have an hp pavillion 4000 i have a VGA cable .
I know there is a way to watch without any converter
i know i will have only pic without sound
But i need help in the configuration only and hwo to dislplay my hp
on the TV

Yes, since your TV has a VGA input all you should need is a simple VGA cable and you should be all set. I am not sure on the TV's model. You say it is a 1080p (1920x1080) display. Once you connect it up, go into the desktop properties and under settings and choose monitor 2. Then just choose what resolution options you have based on your video card. Your laptop and or your TV's VGA input may not support up to 1920x1080, but try it if it does. If not, try others to see what works and looks the best. You can also hit the Function (fn) + the F4 key to switch between monitors once you set up the resolution. And some VGA inputs on TV's (like mine) alshave a mini 3.5mm jack associated with it so you can connect it to your souncard. So look in back or check your manual to see if your TV has 1. If not, you can just use your laptops speakers.

On Vista the computer should switch to a supported resolution. Mine will when the VGA is plugged in and I have the same Intel graphics card.

On my laptop the fn-F4 is used to switch modes, but when I plug in my HDTV to the VGA port it switches resolutions automatically and puts the video to both the HDTV and the internal screen.

The problem is every laptop to HDTV connection tend to be different. If your HDTV is set up to work with a PC through the VGA port the information you will need should be in your HDTV manual. I'd hook up the VGA cable and try different resolutions starting with 640x480 if that works then try 800x600 and so on up until you find the higest that will work. Make sure the refresh is set to 60 Hz not optium or any other value.

Are you saying your laptop screen is black or the HDTV screen is black?

Also if it is a Vista laptop, you should be able to plug in your HDTV to the VGA port and reboot the laptop and it will figure it out for you. Mine does.

Do you know what the refresh rate is set for in the laptop? It has to be 60 Hz.

yes it is 60 HZ

If you have a fn key that has an icon of a CRT screen on it (mine is f4) you can toggle through the output modes by pressing it while holding down the fn key usually beside the ctrl key. They usually go in this order: laptop screen -> vga -> both then back to laptop screen. See if that helps.

I'm out of ideas. Are you in the US? Your IP shows Jordan. You may need 50 Hz refresh for that HDTV. Do you have the HDTV manual?

I found the manuel
It says to set the resolution to 640X480
and set the vertical frequency to 60hz

Vertical Scan Frequency and Refersh Rate mean the same thing, so just make sure the RR is set to 60 hertz (which should e the default anyway). As far as you resolution goes, set it to 640x480 and see what happens. If you get a picture you can see if you can increase the resolution or not. Once you set the resolution value (for minitor 2), switch to it by hitting fn and the f4 keys. I am not sure if that is the highest resolution that VGA input will handle. If so, it only supports 480i like S-video, and pretty lame.

Monitor 2 should be set to 640x480 (as the manual states). Monitor 1 should be your laptop's display. Hitting the function (fn +f4) at the same time should try and force the 2nd display if every thing is connected and set correctly. Do you see any activity on your TV when you try this? You are on the PC/VGA input on the TV menu rite? Do you even have 640x480 as an option? I have a HP laptop with the Intel 915GM graphics and 800x600 is my lowest res option. If this is your deal, you can download graphic programs like powerstrip for free that will give you more resolution options and flexibility perhaps. But just know that if 640x480 is the only resolution option your diplay will not look very good most likely.
