Yeah it is just the first game, but the D looked like the D of old and Matt Forte looks for real. Kyle Orton did a decent job and except for the bone head play by Hester the Bears played a perfect game.

Hell, even though the Dolphins "looked" pretty good yesterday ( with the exception of Pennington), I have a feeling it won't be representative of the season.
Manning was rattled yesterday, looked like he was playin the Gators back when it was known he couldn't handle the heat. Having 2 rookie offensive linemen will do that to a guy. I'd relax and wait a while before I give them the NFC. Remember kids- "THEY ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!!!".

Bigloww
09-08-2008, 08:53 AM
The Bears stacked the line to stop the run and dared Manning to pass. Run and pass blitzed the hell out of them and Manning was not expecting that (especially most of the game). I wish they would of executed that strategy in the Super Bowl a couple years ago, but Rex would have just fumbled 4 or 5 more times probably.:what:

And I think the Dolphins looked good enough to maybe triple their win total from last year. At least double it....:D

They probably would have liked to, but if you remember the Bears were without Tommy Harris in the Super Bowl and he is the main guy in the middle for stopping the run and opening holes for Urlacher and Briggs to get pressure on the QB. And I think they were without Mike Brown also, So they would have been less likely to stop the deep ball like they would have wanted.

But you are right about Rex, he would have found a way to blow it.

Yeah it was a very surprising win. But watch how chi media, bear players and fans jump on da bears bandwagon like they are going to the super bowl ;) This win was just a tease folx, don't get your hopes up too much.

I thought Grossman had a decent Superbowl, but, instead of blaming a defense that got their asses handed to them, let's blame Rex. Oh well.
BTW- I went with my longtime Bears fan buddy to the preseason game v. Seahawks and Forte did look good. Time will tell.

Prior to Sundays game Da Bears watched a replay of their Super Bowl vs. Indy. They said that they would have won if they would have stopped the run, they used it for motivation on Sunday, hence 53 yds running for Indy.

Whether they would have won the Super Bowl is neither here nor there, the fact is they did not blame Rex, they blamed the defense.

Had a decent Super Bowl??? You mean his 2 interceptions and 2 fumbles vs his 1 TD would be considered decent?? And because of that and his 3 and outs the Bears D was on the field almost twice as long as the offense wearing them down as much as the Colts O-line. Giving up 190 yards on the ground was horrible for the Bears D , but not as bad a Grossman. As bad as he played the D kept them VERY much in the game all the way to the 4th qtr when Grossman threw an up for grabs pass on 2nd down and they returned it for a touchdown. Until then, many of the Colts long drives were stifled into field goal attempts when they would finally hunker down. Nit saying that the Bears D don't deserve their fair share of the balme but.....

I think Rex saw that Ben Roethisberger won a Super Bowl the previous year by only completing 9 passes and tossing 2 interceptions and thought he could do the same.

I definitely wish that they would of went undefeated, but they were getting a bit too cocky and the loss put them back to reality a bit. That helped in their total domination after that loss IMO. I'd rather they went 15-1 and had a complete dominating performance in the playoffs and super bowl vs. going 16-0 and choking in the SB like the Pat's did.

And I just wish the Dolphins didn't lay an egg and get bitch slapped by the Pat's in the AFC championship game. Marino (probably my favorite QB of all time) would have been carted off the field in the 1st qrt. The Bears were praying for a rematch and it would have been even more of a blood bath then it was with the Pat's.:huh

When oh when will Chicago get a decent quarterback????? Orton is another in a list of piss poor Bears QB's. Had numerous receivers WIDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE open and could not even come close to completing to them at times. Including the incomplete pass to Booker in the 4th quarter that beat his corner by 5 steps that would have been an easy 7 and also would have sealed the game..Man the defense has to be getting sick of this shit..And what was up with the O play calling in the 4th quarter?? True, the other problem I have with lovie is that he is too much of a company man. He should be complaining about the lack of talent at QB. He talks like all is swell with the team when there are obvious flaws.

Your dam rite I'm bitchin. I (and about 10 million other Bear fans) are sick of this crap. 20+ years of quarterback BS and there is no end in site. Just because your teams quarterback sucks a bigger pole than mine does give Orton's bad play a pass. And don't know why you think it would. If your complacent with the Dolphin's community college type performance the last few years, well, good for you. Hopefully I am wrong and Kyle and he becomes a half way decent QB sometime soon, but I don't see it... Again..

The grass is not greener on my side. Just a lighter shade of brown.

F91
09-16-2008, 10:16 PM
Complacent? Me? I'm actually disgusted about "my" teams performance. Stop hatin' on JC's too, there's a few that might be able to handle to Phins.
The problem that I see, is that there's a lot of bitchin going on, like always , how it's the QB's fault. It isn't that simple. Lovie goes conservative and yet Orton sucks? Hmmmmm.... He shouldn't run the ball with the lead, but Forte was effective all day long. Like Cygnus expertly pointed out earlier in the thread, Steve Smith wasn't playing and the vaunted D got handled at the end. 60 minutes kids. It's a team game, at least you guys have a decent season to look for. Mine is so bad, I have to hang out around here!

Da Bears!!! Man this team could easily be 4-0, but I'll take 2-2 with wins over Indy and Philly. Kyle Orton is playing decent and it looks like they are continuing to improve. With Detroit and Atlanta coming up there is a good chance we could go to 4-2. And with Minnesota looking like crap lately and the possible injury to A. Rodgers for GB. We could make a run at the Division Title.:yippee::yippee: they still need to work on closing out games better, on both sides of the ball. I thought for sure we were going to blow another second half lead.
Did you guys see that stat where Lovie was 26-1 when leading after the 4th qtr. before 2007. In 07 and 08 he was 4-6. I think that has a little something to do with the Bears not resigning Rivera as the D. coordinator, that's the worst move they have made imo.

It was a great game, we had seats 8 rows up from the Bears sideline. That place was probably 40% Bears fans. I agree the squib kick was a dumb call. What the hell was Lovie thinking. Oh well now we are 3-3 and could easily be 6-0 if it wasn't for some blown plays. But I think Orton is coming around and Forte is looking good. All I can say about Matt Ryan is the Falcons had better build around him cause he is going to be a great QB. It was sad seeing all these Falsons fans still wearing Vick jerseys, Matt Ryan deserves better fans.

I disagree about the kick. I think it was a great call since the guy already ran one back 80 yards. The problem was Gould didn't kick it hard enough, that kick has to go further down the field. And there is no excuse for giving up that pass, it was the only option they had and we couldn't stop it. Mike Brown looked really slow, I guess that is what you get when your DB's are all hurt.
They could easily be 6-0 right now.

Would love to have Rivera back, but I think him and Lovie had an issue. (kinda reminds me of the old Ditka and Buddy Ryan thing)

The good thing about our offense carrying the defense right now is that we know the defense can play better when it's healthy. If Vasher and Tillman can get back after the bye week and the offense continues to play well, Da Bears should be able to make a good playoff run.

I think I'm the only one who doesn't think this team is doomed with Rex at the helm. Last time the Bears had a good running game (T. Jones) they made it to the super bowl with Rex at QB. I'm not saying they will their next 4 games, especially since they are playing Tenn, Green Bay on the road etc. but Rex won't be the reason they lose. I give him lots of credit for coming in and bringing the Bears back yesterday. I bet the Cowboys wish they had him right about now. He’s got much better talent around him now then he has had in the past let’s see what he does with it….
