Could the world end in nine days?high145 09-03-2008, 08:00 PM http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/features/article1630897.ece I'm scared. daleb 09-04-2008, 01:45 PM http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/features/article1630897.ece I'm scared. Unless it's a random celestial phenomena, nothing could destroy earth quicker than man himself. spidy 09-04-2008, 03:05 PM Unless it's a random celestial phenomena, nothing could destroy earth quicker than man himself. and man has tried... nuclear test in the 40's and 50's and all... :( daleb 09-04-2008, 03:12 PM and man has tried... nuclear test in the 40's and 50's and all... :( I guess it gets down to 'trying' vs. 'doing it by accident or folly'. Neither one is an attractive alternative. Loves2Watch 09-04-2008, 07:42 PM It should concern us all.... spidy 09-04-2008, 11:01 PM It should concern us all.... well I for one am not going to spend all my savings and run up a big bill on my credit card... BrianO 09-04-2008, 11:35 PM and man has tried... nuclear test in the 40's and 50's and all... :( Doom and Gloom...*sigh* As the Kingston Trio's "Merry Minuet" (ca 1960) went (to howls of laughter, I might add).... They're rioting in Africa They're starving in Spain There's hurricanes in Florida And Texas needs rain The whole world is festering with unhappy souls The French hate the Germans, the Germans hate the Poles Italians hate Yugoslavs, South Africans hate the Dutch And I don't like anybody very much. But we should be tranquil and thankful and proud For man's been endowed with a mushroom shaped cloud And we know for certain that some lovely day Someone will set the spark off, and we will all be blown away. They're rioting in Africa There's strife in Iran What nature doesn't do to us Will be done by our fellow man. glennb1 09-18-2008, 05:00 PM In the science fiction tv shows and movies the engineers always tell everyone - Don't be concerned, we have everything under control, there's no need to worry, that would never happen. Then a day or so later the planet blows up, or hostile aliens invade and kill everyone, or an asteroid hits the planet, etc.... Between this experiment and the December 21, 2012 thing I don't think anyone is going to be around much longer. Chris Gerhard 09-19-2008, 05:52 AM The test was conducted on September 10th although I am not sure how long it is supposed to take for the Earth to be destroyed. I did think this statement was interesting: universe came into existence 14 billion years ago. I didn't know that so it appears to be a very durable universe, lasting longer than anyone thought was possible when it was just getting started. If Earth does disappear sometime soon, relatively, will anybody not on earth even notice? With the several hundred million years things on Earth have been evolving, how many other planets have done this well? Chris Nikopol 09-19-2008, 06:14 AM The first tests for industrialized production of mini black-holes (to be used as pets) are scheduled for September 22 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safety_of_the_Large_Hadron_Collider). We have a weekend left. :p Rick-F 09-19-2008, 07:06 AM I didn't know that so it appears to be a very durable universe, lasting longer than anyone thought was possible when it was just getting started. Chris Who was it that was around that thought anything ". . . when it was just getting started"-- you know this because they wrote it down? :) irving 10-08-2008, 12:01 AM Well if all the nukes in every country would start to explode one by one here on earth, well the world might end in 9 days. It's worth a try. Okay unless there are some major incident like a meteor or comet the size of Texas would hit and impact on earth, i hope that Deep Impact is wrong. That, every life would end just in 9 days span. LOL tipstir 10-08-2008, 08:38 PM http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/features/article1630897.ece I'm scared.
