i-tunes to DVD

Dont know anyone else to ask. Have downloaded a number of songs from i-tunes to CD's. I am interested in finding out if I can download to DVD, which would give me additional space. I have tried with no success but its very possible I am doing something wrong, since I am technically challenged.
