Hello, I'm new to this forum, so I'd like to quick say hello to all you, this forum seems to be a great place for all things HD :) .
Anyways, I'm a college student on a limited budget and I'm in the search for a new television for my bedroom. I'm looking for something less than $1000(preferably $600-$800) that is in the range of 26-30 inches. My usage is 20% X-Box, 20% DVD, and 60% standard cable. I'm leaning towards a 16:9 screen since I will be watching that occasional DVD and playing that occasional X-Box game but I'm also looking at 4:3 because I still watch a lot of 4:3 programming.
I don't plan on doing HD yet because our cable company's (Cox) lineup is terrible and I won't have my surround sound hooked up with the Tv. HD for me at this time would be a wash, any HD usage will be X-Box and progressive scan DVD
My "secret evil plan" is to put this Tv in the bedroom and gradually build a secondary theater around it, in the meantime though I will be hooking up a TiVo to it, my X-Box, and a DVD player. No surround sound though :o . I have my main home theater in the family room with my surround and had originally planned months ago to upgrade that Tv to a new HDTV and put the old one in my room but due to space limitations in the family room I won't be able to do it the way I had planned and am now planning for this new Tv to go in my bedroom.
Here lies my problem; I've been seriously mulling over my plan and am begining to have doubts that I'm doing the right thing. I'm begining to wonder if I should really bother with buying a 16:9 HDTV and perhaps should be looking at sticking with a standard 4:3 given the intended usage of this television. On one side I really like the prospect of having a nice television that can do widescreen but OTOH I'm also wonder if HD is overkill for me right now. I plan on keeping this Tv a year down the road when I move out so it is probably safer to go HD capable especially with the looming FCC deadline but I can't help but question if I should stick with the standard analog television.
What should I do? should I stick with my plan and go HD or should I go analog? is HD and 16:9 a good route for me to go with given my inteded usage of this set?
I apologize for the length of my first post but I really need help deciding. :)
Thanks!
