Definitely something we will remember watching years from now.

I know it was all about Phelps & he was deserving, but how about his USA team mate that swam the last leg of that race...when they flipped to turnaround the country that was supposed to give the USA a run for it made up ground & for just a second I thought uh-oh, but then the USA guy just hit another gear & blew him away. I thought that was awesome as well.

Michael Phelps was just amazing and now Usian Bolt gets my attention but I am not finding much of interest otherwise. Mr. Phelps with his impossible mission accomplished doesn't leave any room to be topped, that was absolutely astounding, no matter how it is described, it can't be over praised. Greatest ever claims are common, but after following sports for most of my life, I believe Michael Phelps accomplishments as a swimmer top all other athletes in all other sports. No athlete has been so dominant in their given sport. Bill Russell, Michael Jordan, Jack Nichlaus, Pete Sampras, Tiger Woods, Roger Federer and a few others were certainly dominant in their sports but this man achieved 7 World Records and 1 Olympic Record to go 8 for 8 in gold medals and he did this following up a World Championship where I believe he won 7 gold medals. No Olympic athlete, no professional athlete, nobody in any sport has equalled that.

Give Lezak credit for great anchor swims in two relays, he was awesome and had reason to doubt his ability before he delivered big time when it was needed the most. The entire US men's and women's swim teams were excellent but Michael Phelps defies description.

I thought it was also funny that these olympics started on 8/08/08 at 8PM and Michael Phelps went 8/8. How is that for some crazy 8's? Maybe he should put his picture on a crazy 8's card game and make a few bucks. I hoped the guy could pull this off but I just didn't think it could be done until I saw it happen. Michael Phelps moved past Carl Lews in my opinion as greatest Olympian ever.

Absolutley fantastic and congrats to all our athlets. I am glad to see that Chris said olympian because so many people are saying greatest athlete ever and although he is absolutley the best Olympian athlete I am not so sure about greatest athlete period. That being said he really did the USA proud. :yippee:

So when will the steroids allegations begin...? Ppl already complaining about the suit :o

So when will the steroids allegations begin...? Ppl already complaining about the suit :o

It is a sad state in the US with the two greatest baseball players of the last 25 years, Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens, cheating by using steroids, and lying like crazy trying to cover it up. The Tour de France winner Floyd Landis tested positive for steroids and was stripped of his title. Lance Armstrong has been accused, and I am not thoroughly convinced he cheated too, but there is some evidence he did. There have been accusations that Michael Phelps cheated, but it is my understanding he has passed thorough testing and is absolutely clean. Michael Phelps is aquaman, built for the sport and works hard is how I think he pulled it off.

So when will the steroids allegations begin...? Ppl already complaining about the suit :o I would imagine that he has been tested at least a few time by the IOC, before and while in Beijing. With all his publicity over the past few months, why would it start now. But with all the world and Olympic records falling this Olympics in the pool (some had 3 or 4 teams beat the original records in the same race)! Perhaps they need to test the water for performance enhancers.. :DI know the pool is deeper and the sides allow for overspill, but wow..

Hey, if a N. Korean Pistol shooter can have his medals stripped due to testing positive for performance enhancers, anything is possible.

And as Sobay stated, congrats also goes out to the entire men's swim team, where 2 gold medals for Phelps would not be possible without their outstanding effort.

But with 8 gold medals with 7 world records and 1 Olympic record out the 8 races... Wow, no matter what suit he wears..:yippee:

Phelps knows how to finish a race, there can be no doubt. Coasting in with a very slight lead isn't the preferred method. What a finish that was.

To be fair, the witch hunt on Barry Bonds has gotten nowhere. If anything, he deserves an apology from the conspiratory sports media ;) One person you left out of the steroid hall of shame is the olympic track star (can't think of her name) who vehemently denied she doped for years, but had a change of heart and confessed. I don't understand what made her change her story after so many years. I think she is currently serving time for lying to the feds or something. I too think armstrong doped.

Speaking of steroids and olympics, I was watching a CNN program this weekend about this former olympic gold medalist. While training, she noticed she started to become attracted to other girls. She also noticed her facial features started changing, e.g. strong chin. She later found our that her trainers were giving her growth hormones, telling her they were vitamins. To make a long story short: she is now a he, having gone through the entire operation. It was an interesting story to say the least.

NBC and IOC are praying that he's clean. Would destroy the games if he isn't.
Wonder if Spitz was clean back in 72. Everyone thought it was just the Eastern Europeans who were suspect back than. He could've been ahead of his time.

Ashame , makes me a cynic.

Actually, Chris, I coach swimming as my part-time job. What Cavic did was proper and what Phelp's did (take half a stroke) is not what they're taught. Phelp's even admitted that, but he figured he was losing, so "what the hell". 98% of the time it will work against you. As an example, USS swimming has times broken down by age, event, etc. They are also broken down into gold, silver and bronze times. I had a swimmer miss a "gold" time by .01 because instead of gliding in with his arms extended, he pulled his arms away from the wall to do a "half" stroke (as Phelps did). Man, that guy has magic mojo. WAY TO GO, MICHAEL!

Interesting, I just thought aquaman knew exactly where he was and what he had to do to win. He made Cavic look like he was gradually and slowly gliding toward the finish and Phelps lunged, flapped his arms and touched the wall. He couldn't have won it with the proper finish although at that point he was moving faster than Cavic apparently, he was going to lose by .01 rather than win in my opinion.

Usian Bolt with two world records has been amazing now as well, he makes the other sprinters look like children.
