:( this saddens me, but I rather them release something they are proud to show rather then just settle on it because of a deadline... But I wonder what would make them push it back that far????
EDIT: Sooo apparantley it is about money, here is a excerpt from WB
In making the announcement, Mr. Horn stated, "Our reasons for shifting 'Half-Blood Prince' to summer are twofold: we know the summer season is an ideal window for a family tent pole release, as proven by the success of our last 'Harry Potter' film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first installment. Additionally, like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers' strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films—changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of. We agreed the best strategy was to move 'Half-Blood Prince' to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent pole release for mid-summer."

Anytime a studio has a $200,000,000+ investment in a property like this, release dates, quality, promotion and everything else has to come together for it to work. I can only assume Warner knows what it is doing here, but long delays in general are bad news and often means there is concern. Concern about the film quality or the return on investment is the question but I expect this film to be excellent, the franchise has been terrific so far.

I would lean towards quality as I am sure they do not need to worry about return on investment. Like you said, the series has been terrific so far.
