I seen this yesterday and it was amazing, I didnt know what to expect going in as its from the ecclectic mind of Ben Stiller which can sometimes err on the side of unfunny while trying to be too funny.. From opening credits to the end this movie I was laughing out loud, and I can already see this being bigger on DVD then it will be in theaters.. Its going to be a movie that you can watch over and over again and get new quotes each time as there is a lot of subtleties in this film.. I give it a 4/5 and reccomend anyone who enjoys a GOOD comedy to go see this.. The cameo's alone are worth it..

I do have to say Robert Downey Jr is just spectacular in this film, he steals the show and for me is what made this movie soo damn enjoyable.. an ode to Mr. Downey Jr

I've seen it twice. As hard as it is for me to say, RDJ is better in this than Ledger as the Joker. The man was absolutely brilliant. The movie is over the top on every level and never apologizes for it. I can see the "Directors cut" being even better and I noticed that some of the scenes during the credits, particularly Jack Black dancing on stage was yet another riff on Apocalypse Now and not in the final cut. I bet the DVD will have a ton of extras. Laugh out loud hilarious, highly recommended.

Well your guys' reviews have sold me on going to see this.

I have a question also.
Didn't RDJ play the kid that gets into colege by painting himself black a long time ago? If so what was that monie? Or even if it wasn't RDJ what was that movie?

Thanks

Yeah, I'm so ready to see RDJ get an Oscar nom for best supporting from this. I've seen it twice now and it got EVEN FUNNIER the second time through...

And yes, I cannot wait for the DVD extras. That whole "I don't drop commentary til the DVD commentary's done" thing makes me think they're going to do in character commentary, maybe have the Rain of Madness documentary in its entirety... basically, can't wait.

I love all the lines from the movie... everyone at work loves the movie too so everyone's always quoting it

Drbrosco -- did you go see it yet? What'd you think?

This movie convinces me that RDJ really can do anything. He does drama with such flair, and comedy with... well, an even bigger flair. I can't wait to see him in the Soloist this fall, esp. after seeing him in Tropic Thunder... if you can act like he did in that movie, you can literally do anything. I want to see him up for three acting Oscars in one year!

Did you guys go see the movie? I hit the theaters this weekend but they were closed, for some sort of renovations or something, I was so upset. I can't wait for the TT DVD, I bet there's going to be insane extras on that.

Just saw Rain of Madness, and for those that loved the movie it's definitely worth checking out: www.rainofmadness.com

It's like an Apocalypse Now documentary following the Tropic Thunder conflict and the guys that are involved in it. It's as great a parody as the film itself was. If nothing else, it's another great excuse to see RDJ do his thing. :)

That would be Soul Man, and it wasn't RDJ. I actually saw that movie in the theaters.

After you gave me the name of the show I went to imdb.com & found out it was C. Thomas Howell who played the part. That was a funny movie I thought.

Our plans to go see Tropic Thunder fell thru so we will probably just wait for Directv to put it on ppv HD.

I have to add my opinion of Tropic Thunder... it was hysterical. Like many comedies, the first five minutes is the funniest part, but it is good throughout.

Even though I completely ignore the Oscars, I hope RDJ gets a nomination (the fact that performances like this are always overlooked is the reason I ignore the Oscars in the first place.)

I've seen it 3 times now. Also got a "I'm a lead farmer" t shirt off of ebay. Did I mention they sell beer at our theater?

I'd say see it as soon as you can, it's definitely worth a watch in the theatre. In the meantime, Rain of Madness is a nice side-story that's got a lot of the same humor (and all the same actors) as Tropic Thunder.
