I thought i'd share a couple pictures I took near the summit of Pikes Peak on the Pikes Peak highway which peaks at over 14000 feet. Not a single problem with the exception that the vehicle felt very sluggish, and the transmission was shifting very late and harsh. Notice the clouds above and below. I wish my camera had better resolution though...........
This particular trip up Pikes Peak was very special in that i've never experienced anything like this before. On the lower portion of the drive up, I experienced intense fog that was very disorienting. Once I got above it, the view was just unbelievable as you could see that cloud layer sitting below you like a cotton carpet. Those pictures were probably at about 13k altitude since it was very close to the summit. I couldn't stay too long because heavy fog started rolling in up around the summit and it was very disorienting, especially since I was already getting a bit dizzy.

Gallant would do better when I drove 10,000 feet to the Grand Canyon a few years back. Some transmission just don't work well going higher. Oh well.. Great Pictures of your Chevy..

I have to say that the next time I have a chance to go on vacation(probably in like another decade), i'm definately going back to Colorado. I have to say that it isn't a good place to live, but I doubt you can find anywhere more beautiful for a vacation.
Gallant would do better when I drove 10,000 feet to the Grand Canyon a few years back. Some transmission just don't work well going higher. Oh well.. Great Pictures of your Chevy..

I got my car in Jupiter, FL. I live in the mountains but not that high up though I have never got the vehicle tune-up yet since buying it 8 years ago. You know 100,000+ miles no tune-up.. If I drive to Lake George (a lake on top of mountain) which is has it high peeks or Berkshires (by-the-way) good places to visit if you get up this way. The car handles very well. I never heard of a vehicle being tuned differently for elevation height.

The only thing that should really affect a car with altitude is air pressure, thinner air makes a car run a little less efficiently. Thats why you hear about how sports cars, especially with turbos run a bit faster at lower elevations. Denser air=more energy per stroke.

My vehicle does have a transmission that was custom calibrated by a local race shop that specializes in my vehicle. They not only re-timed the shifts and shift points, but changed line pressure and other bits to make the vehicle shift much better than it did from the factory. The engine was also custom tuned, and it wasn't exactly liking the high altitude of 12-14k feet. I imagine that I probably could have reset the computer by disconnecting the battery, but why bother when i'm just visiting a state?
