uverse is now available in chicago land south suburbs/NE Illinois. Long awaited by me, but now maybe not so good---let me see if i have this all right, then you guys can correct me.

I currently have Directv for tv service (HD included of course); I have comcast for internet service (the 8 "mb/sec" version or whatever..I know the speed I bought is "8" and it works very well. The internet is used very often in the house, as is our three tv's (only one has a dvr), but usually two tv's are on, and the internet is used at the same time.

Uverse comes out, and seems to offer me these two things in one package. However, the reviews I have read are very worrying.

1. Putting my internet and TV service on the same service/line/whatever you call it will cause me to sacfrifice HD quality and internet speed quality.

2. I can not watch or record more than one HD channel at a time. However there is a new dual feed or something coming that will allow me to. However, this will further choke off any available bandwidth, and result in poor quality HD and internet speed.

Please let me know if I am right, or very confused.

I would say somewhat confused. The bandwidth has been upped to accomodate 2 HD streams and up to 10 mbps internet. The HD quality has improved quite a bit over the past few months to the point that I would say is on par with cable. Not quite up to OTA quality though, but nothing else is either.

If you currently have Directv HD and internet you are happy with, why would you switch? To save money maybe?

The AT&T U-Verse commercials I see here in Chicago say they offer a free HD DVR that is capable of recording up to 4 shows at once. At the bandwith with your internet connection should not be an issue. They offer internet packages that start from 1.5 Mbps up to 10 Mbps for the elite package.

They will record 4 shows at once. 2 HD + 2 SD, 1 HD + 3 SD or 4 SD.

Anyone with U-Verse in the Chicago area.... Do they carry Comcast Sports Net and if so, do they have it in HD? I didn't see it on the channel lineup. I watch tons of Cubs and Blackhawks, so this channel is a must.

The quality is very good for the price. I can't say it is as good as Directv, but it is much less costly. Especially the up front cost.

If you already have the Directv equipment and are happy with the cost, why switch?
