Parts of the new HP movie are filmed in IMAX 3D.

So during the movie - you will be asked to put on your glasses to see the 3D parts (at an IMAX movie theater)

Unknown if it will work (probably) at a RealD equipped Digital Cinema. No changing aspect ratio as there would be at an IMAX theater.

So it will be like the Dark Knight then kinda?

Ie opening scene, and city scape shots, mixed in with normal 2.39/2.40:1 AR

That sounds pretty cool..

Oh and this movie looks AWESOME!!! These movies have gotten progressively better and more dark in nature, I have high hopes for Half Blood Prince and I dont think I will be let down..

Yes - same as TDK except that the IMAX sequences will be in 3D as opposed to 2D.

I will keep my eyes open for technical articles on this film.

OOPS - :o - looks like HP will not be the same as TDK as far as changing AR's:

HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE: AN IMAX 3D EXPERIENCE, from Warner Bros. Pictures, will be digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR ® (digital re-mastering) technology.

The movie is based on the best-selling J.K. Rowling book and is the sixth installment of the successful Harry Potter film series.

HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE: THE IMAX 3D EXPERIENCE will be distributed exclusively by Warner Bros. Pictures.

IMAX DMR takes a 2.39 AR movie and shows it in 1.44 AR.

I just looked at IMDB and IMAX is not listed in the camera credits but the trailer for it did say sequences in IMAX 3D.

The film format could be Super 35 which would present more info on an IMAX presentation than a commerical print at 2.39.

The Super 35 Film Format:

2 of the previous HP films were shot with Super 35:

So long as its not stretched and still sharp looking, that would be awesome to see HP in full IMAX glory..

If Super 35 is used, then all your fears and concerns should be put to bed.And cheer knowing that the IMAX presentation will be much better than the 2.39 presentation because:

1. You will see more image during the entire presentation. The opening sequence of TDK - that looked real IMO because everthing looked like real life - it was sized properly for me to believe I was right there as a spectator to the event - as opposed to a person watching a movie.

2. The quality of the presentation would match the "dallies" that the Director and DR of DP see while making the film - prints struck from the camera negative. No resolution fall off like we have with normal prints.

I'm sure we will get more info as the release date nears.. Either way being able to see this in Full Imax glory and being 3D (parts of it anyways) make this one a no brainer..

Thanks for the info Lee :yippee:

NP:)

:o - I have never seen a Harry Potter film - theater or video. I may see this one because I want to see another movie that takes advantage of IMAX's technology.

TDK has throughly wet my appetite for Hollywood movies shown in IMAX.:D

I loved the first 5 movies, my youngest daughter has read all of the books and helped me understand the stories. I haven't seen any of them in a theater and have only seen "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" on Blu-ray. Now I have all 5 on HD DVD and we plan to watch them before we see the new film. The trailer won't play for me, so I will wait and hopefully I can download the trailer to my PS3 and watch it.
