Who saw it? What'd you think? I saw it in IMax and it is simply amazing. Heath Ledger played Joker flawlessly.

I haven't seen it yet. I haven't had time and I really don't go to the theater - It's been over a year since I've been as we just watch at home.

I'm still not sure if I'll wait for the Blu-ray release or just go see it at IMAX.

I plan on seeing it in imax ASAP. I avoided seeing it this weekend after reading how well it did.. I bet the theaters were uncomfortably packed. Can't wait though, ive only heard good things.

Guys,

We're already discussing this in another thread...unless you're talking about a different film?:what:

EDIT: My thread is for those who already saw it and want to discuss it -- it does contain spoilers about the plot, so those of you who haven't yet seen it, don't go in there! I suppose that's why you started this thread...

I seen it twice but once was friday at 8am so it was not bad at all and than again yesterday at 11 which was pretty packed but we got there an hour early so we got good seats.. If you go during the week you should have no problem, but this upcoming weekend is looking to be just as crazy..

Oh and either way, its worth it. It is that good

I have seen it twice at the Cine Capri as this movie deserves much better than a normal screen, I did make plans yesterday to go see it at the Imax but even on a monday and getting there an hour before it started, it was Sold out.. So we had to settle on a regular theatre :(

I would see it one more time in the Imax but I will have to wait a couple weeks I think. The Cine Capri is not as bad in regards to being sold out and packed

I saw it and was not impressed. I believe it lacked continuity, had poor character development and was not anywhere near as good as Batman Begins. And even though I don't particularly care for Katie Holmes, they should have kept her in the role of asst. DA as Maggie just didn't get it.

Although I value your opinion I think you are in the minority on this one..

I think this movie shined in all areas you thought it failed or left you unimpressed.. This is a rare movie especially for its genre, and to be this complete in soo many aspects is a rare thing..

Saw TDK in Imax last night. It was incredible. Is the sound in an Imax different than a regular theater too? It sure seemed like it.

The theater was jam packed. Every row but the front row was filled. I really didn't expect it to be that crazy at 10:20pm on a Tuesday night.. it just goes to show how big this movie is.

Anyways, as many have already stated, this is a must see, ESPECIALLY if you've got an Imax local to you. Also will be huge on BD, probably the best selling title yet.

Yes - the sound is different in an IMAX theater. They don't use a 5.1 setup (single sub.). They use 6 (of which probably only 5 would be active) full range channels. Each channel has it's own sub(s). Plus they use a ton of power - about 15,000 watts.

Thanks Lee. That 15,000 watts of power is VERY noticable plenty of times throughout the movie. You're in for a treat.

Wow I thought the Imax did better than that on the audio front..

I know I bring it up a lot but the Cine Capri near me has 30,000 watts of digital sound via 146 individual speakers... The screen may not be quite as big as an Imax screen but 70'x30' is nothing to scoff at..

Most imax screens are as wide but about 20' taller, but that would make The Dark Knight have bars on both top and bottom except for the 30 mins or so of imax print they have in it..

hey anythingwt was there any black bars at the Imax or was the screen filled?

They don't use "black bars."

All they do is use the center of the IMAX screen to show the 2.39 AR image.

It would be the same thing if they showed a 1.85 movie on a 2.39 screen

The opening scene of the movie completely filled the screen, corner to corner. It was awesome.

The rest of the movie has really small black bars. Like maybe 3-4ft bars on both the top and bottom at the most. You could hardly notice the bars throughout the movie, as the image just about filled the screen. I expected the bars to be way bigger since most of the move was supposed to be 2:35:1.

Thats what I meant, they are not actually using black bars but it still has that affect of looking like it.. I dont like that look at the theater, which is why I stay away from 1.85 ar movies at the Cine Capri as it cuts off the sides.. although they usually move the curtains in to frame the picture so it is not as distracting..

I think I will pass on the Imax version of The Dark Knight, aside from a little more screen, I rather have top notch sound..

Just over 700

so twice as many watts for just over twice as many people.. One thing I could not find on the Imax is how many speakers they have because watts alone is not the end all but speakers and placement count also..

Although I am sure both have placement down pat, but the count of total speakers and Mfgr??

I believe the Cine Capri uses Klipsch since its owned by harkins just like AMC use's JBL... I do not know what Imax uses as they are independantly owned and operated somewhere in Canada I think...

There were only 2 visible speakers at the Deer Valley Imax. They were placed on the L and R behind where I was sitting. The rest were behind the screen(or at least that's how it sounded)

that just doesnt sound right for an Imax theatre, but then again people go to the Imax for its sheer screen size..

IMAX is doing a landmark business with TDK. Just read that thread i posted about it. Shows are sold out many days in advance.

IMAX uses 6 full frequency channels.

There are 4 channels behind the screen - 3 in the "normal" position - (middle of the screen) - L, C and R. They also add a 4th channel above the Center channel. Each "speaker" is in fact a massive speaker array containing many speakers - from tweeters to subwoofers.

The have two massive speaker arrays - one for left Surround and one for Right Surround.

Agreed -- as I said in the Official Dark Knight discussion, it was a mistake to have dropped Katie Holmes from the role; what was the deal with her, does anyone know? Why did she not want to do the Dark Knight...was it money? Was she pregnant? Did Tom the Freak not let her?

I was suprised she died at the end of this too -- wasn't the "Rachael Dawes" character a long running element in the story, or did this not follow the comic either?

Yeah, as lilmase said, Maggie was in the movie called 'Secretary'

IMAX may have only 15,000 watts, but 30,000 watts is not twice as loud as 15,000 watts. The function to describe loudness in a speaker is logarithmic, so it takes 10 times the watts to sound twice as loud. So, when you double the power, you only get a 3 dB increase in loudness (all other things being equal.)

Also, this doesn't take into account efficiency, sensitivity, and dispersion of the speaker which may affect the loudness more than the amount of wattage it can handle.
