Ok had mine hooked up for a few yrs minimum and im sure i hooked up with one wire going to the battery then the other going to a switch with the other side of the swith going to the fuse or something like that but im unsure. Right now im not where i can check at, i did look at earlier and looks like i didnt have it going to the fuse box. I did have one wire from one screw on the switch fused itself with one of those fuse links on the wire type thing and that mite have been the one going to the battery. The other wire from the switch mite be going to one of the wires on the lights. I know both wires when i tested with test light and car switched on lit up. One actually lit up when i switched to that side only, it didnt light up when the switch wasnt clicked on that side.

So now that i gave yall some insight maybe yall can tell me which is best to hook it up. The thing is they stopped workng the other nite and when i checked this morning, the wire from the switch that was fused was burnt and had come loose. I ran a wire between the part that came loose and lights still didnt come on but wire was indeed lit up with the test light. I even used another switch unless boths bad lol. I didnt have time to actully test the lights themselves just running to battery and see if comes on. Any opinions appreciated.

If you are running your power directly off the battery, you are probably putting too much power through your wire with it hooked up that way.

Take it off from that. Tie into a 12V switched or constant wire (depending if you want the lights to work separately from the headlights. Most are wired into parking lights 12V switched, so you can tag there). Run a relay. You will have a ground, the 12V switch wire, one to your actual toggle, and one to your lights. This makes sure your lights are wired properly, power is distributed properly, and you should have no more melted wires. Also be sure to install an inline fuse.

Never run accessories directly powered from your battery or your fusebox without any type of relays or fuses. You can have overloads and cause a fire.

I had a problem burning switches out a few years ago on my race car(electric fan) Just put a relay (about 5 bucks) and that will solve it..

Yep, you need a relay in there. Helps prevent the problem you just had. Installed aftermarket OEM fogs on the wifes 08 Altima last weekend.
