copy protection stinks

Well, I just came across my first copy protected PPV movie; The Golden Compass. I am not happy. This whole 24 hour thing is just crazy!! :banghead:

I was going to buy it for my 10 year old to see. But I like to watch movies like this first to make sure it is appropriate given it has a PG-13 rating and he in only 10. But it puts me in a scheduling delemna. How do I schedule two screenings in the 24 hour period other than watching the movie during the day. Yeah. That's fun! And what parent(s) would be able to schedule time together during the day for such a viewing.

On option would be to burn it to a DVD. But then I would lose the HD quality of it and most likely sound quality as well. :banghead:

Why pay for an HD movie if I'll have to watch it in SD?

Am I alone in this? Am I the only one who feels a little cheated if I spend the $6?

This digital protection stuff is just nuts! I know it is not Dish's doing and do not blame them. I just needed to vent.

Thanks for listening.

Vinmaker.

P.S. I need some wine! :)

your better off renting from netflix or blockbuster

I refuse to watch ppv from dish because of there greedy methods

In my opinion, if I spend money on something, whatever it is then I own it

this isn't so much Dish as it is the studios. they have been furious for years that people can download movies to a DVR and then watch them over and over.

Dish doesn't really have a choice (not that their fighting it either)

You present a unique situation.

Like you I have a 10 year old (As well as a 7 year old) that I like to know if the movie is appropriate or not for them. In most circumstances the wife and I will sit down ad watch the movie with the kids and discuss any content that is not age appropriate.

I think the 24 hour rental is no different than renting from a kiosk like Redbox. The difference being with PPV you don't have to leave the house. Redbox is cheaper though.

DirectTV has had to do the same thing. No provider wants to anger the studios and create bad blood.

It's a good idea to preview a movie before you let your children watch it. But there are plenty of resources online that give you plenty of information about how and why a movie received its rating.

you know another good place to "rent" a movie and it's FREE?!

the library!

I don't know if they offer HD or Blu-Ray(probably not) but we have seen new releases from the library. Nothing like watching a movie for a couple of week and paying nothing!
