Discovery Channel is showing ads that the Green Channel will be starting on Wednesday. Does anyone know what kind of programming this will be and will we be getting it?

Discovery Home is becoming Planet Green. It will still have the same shows as Discovery Home (more or less) but they will deal more with green renovation and other green stuff.

I read somewhere last week that this channel isn't supposed to get into politics or "why" the earth is getting warmer or really any controversial stuff. Supposedly it is going to focus on what individuals can do to live greener lives but without the political propoganda. We'll see if it turns out that way, but that is just one story I read.

Wow.. why so much negativity towards it?

If its as jpfrasier says, it seems like it could be pretty cool. I'm far from a tree hugger, but I do see that we live on a planet with limited resources and there are plenty of things we can do to help leave the place in as good shape (if not better) for those we'll leave behind some day.

Not to mention, being "green" is a great way to save money.

Well said. That is pretty much the same way I feel about it.

It sucks because Al Gore has made such a stink over it. I live in Idaho where we have had to deal with a bunch of environmentalists and green crap. We have had the wolves crammed down our throat by people outside the state and when they are getting out of hand they scream when we shoot them.

I do believe in conserving but sheesh a green channel. Sounds like a bunch of feel gooders getting ready to compliment themselves and want to drag me into it.

I was watching the History Channel a couple of weeks ago. The EXPERTS they had on said no matter how much Global Warming there might be it will only delay the next Ice Age. So I'll do my part to help delay the next Ice Age.

If it makes you feel any better those same nuts are bothering us here in the North East as well. Hell it's so bad now we can't even build roads to releave traffic jams. Somehow building roads is bad for the planet but sitting in traffic burning gas is good. :banghead:

I don't think that you will save too much money by going green. I know that somethings may help you save money but for the most part it won't. I.E. buying grocery bags (those cost money while plastic ones don't) also buying a prius (a car marked up so much that gas would have to be $10 a gallon in order for you to ever save money, not to mention that it has polluted the earth more than a hummer ever will before it even leaves the production line!) Well I will watch the channel as long as Al Gore isn't on it and they don't show anything about global warming.

It's in SD on Dish now but while watching a little bit of it they say they are available in HD. I don't know if Dish has plans to add it but if so it would probably be later in the fall.

The "Greens" are why we're paying $4 a gallon for gas. They have blocked every attempt for new domestic drilling in the past 30 years, blocked every attempt to build a new nuclear power facility in 30 years, and blocked every application for a new fuel refinery in the past 30 years.

Keep in mind these are the same people blaming Bush for the price of gas even though we have more untapped oil reserves than any country on earth. So much so that CHINA is drilling 60 mi off the Florida coast! China for god-sakes!

Hey, I'm all for public transportation and trying to be environmentally conscious (we take the train to work and stay close to home patronizing local businesses), but the "Greens" are such hypocrites that I want to empty my .45 in a few of them!

Sorry to get political.

Actually none of the programs from Discovery Home made the cut on this new channel. Shows like Holmes on Homes and License To Grill (Two Canadian shows) can't be seen in the US right now. We'll have to wait and see if they find a new home here.

Let me start off by saying just how sour I can get around environmentalists. I can go from calm and collected to flat out pissed when I have to deal with these morons. After saying that though I don't think we can lay the blame 100% on their doorstep. As I seem to remember congress approved 2 new refineries in the last decade but it was cheaper to import gas than refine it on our shores. I suspect that in light of current fuel costs that will change.

I live way out in the stick's and drive a Ford truck that gets crappy mileage. I also hunt about every day so folks like me are target number one to the green smucks. Until I change and live my life the way that they do I will be that ba$terd that is ruining the earth.

The problem with tree huggers and on the other side the fanatical hunters is there is no middle ground. I have tried to reach compromises with environmentalists and been told no way. Kind of makes me want to insist on my rights and screw trying to be Mr nice guy. I wish that instead of militant positions both sides could back off a bit and try to come to terms. That goes for congress as well.

Not to get too political but why should congress be approving refineries? What our conrgess needs to do is offer oil companies a reason to build more not the priviledge to build one or two here.

If you owned a company that make something from a resource that was only going to last 40 or 50 more years what incentive would you have to invest money into lowering the prices? Each day you pick up a newspaper or watch TV you see how bad your product is to the world and how our government is going to get the country to use less with intentions to replace it all together, again why would you invest billions into making more only to see the price fall?

The key is that we can't forget like we did each and every time in the past. In the 70s lined up at the pump waiting for gas, did we learn? Yes we switched to smaller gas sipping cars. Too bad we forgot and went right back to our old ways once the price dropped.

We need a two pronged approach. Get more gas and cheaper into the market for the short term. Continue to work on replacing gas while the price is low so the costs of the replacement will not be so high (driven up by the costs of gas). And yes we need to change, not Obama change, real change.
