722 upgrade for free!!

Finally went out and bought my GEORGE BUSH tv the other day (42" Samsung 720p Plasma), so the next step was to call DN to upgrade my regular dual tuner receiver. Long story short, they said $150 for upgrade to a 722, and I said i'm call Directv. I asked if thats how they treat long term customers, and next thing you know, she said they would upgrade me for free! Not a bad deal...

Now, here is a question I have had. Does a 1080p or 1080i tv produce better quality images on the SD channels? The HD channels on the samsung are awesome, but the SD channels are so-so...

Not necessarily. It largely depends on the TV itself. Many do a great job (several of mine do) and many do not. It all depends on the particular make and model of TV not necessarily whether it is a HDTV, plasma, LCD, LCoS, 1080p, 720p or anything else. And generally speaking (although there are a few exceptions) the larger the screen size, the worse SD looks.

Thanks Loves2Watch... I just wanted to make sure. I have heard so many different opinions my head is spinning!! 6 months ago when I called DN, they said to go with a 720p. THats what I bought (sammy series 4 plasma clearanced out at WallyWorld for $700).

The tech shows up to do an install, and he says I should go with a 1080...go figure!

I think I will stick with the 720 I have. Can't justify the extra $$$$
