DN just needs to keep the channels the people really want, like Monsters, I never had it but if many people were willing to pay an extra $10 for it they should just add it to their HD programming free of charge, we already pay extra for HD service, one more HD channel is not going to kill them.

Is there a petition somewhere that we'll quit complaining about losing Voom if they give us WGN, Speed and FX in HD? I'll sign that.
Wouldn't do any good anyway. DishNet is smart enough to know that anyone who will relentlessly whine about losing a channel that only shows old horror movies will always find something to complain about.

You can not petition a private company unless it is a utility.
The majority of the people that are upset about Voom watch Monsters and Kung Fu. If Dish wants Voom channels, it's all or nothing. They can't just have Monsters and Kung Fu. Why would Dish pay for 15 channels when the majority of people only watch 2 channels? It is not a good business decision.
I agree that Dish did not handle the situation properly, but in the end it is a business decision.
For those of you who think that leaving Dish will somehow "hurt" them, you are mistaken. 99% of the population does not know what Voom is. Dish will lose customers because Voom is gone, but they will also add customers because of the channels they added.

your blowing sunshine there, Dish has been slipping severely in the subscriber battle and this move is going to cost them more. They are hurting already and leaving dish has more to do with not continuing with a co. that is no longer serving your needs as a subscriber. There are large numbers of folks who would list Monsters as a primary reason for getting the HD package, just as there are large numbers(no doubt larger) of folks who have dtv simply for the NFL.

This "large number of folks" you speak of is still a minority. You're right, Dish loses customers to DTV because of the NFL package, but Monsters has no where near the demand of the NFL package. The NFL package is available to anyone with DTV and a TV. Monsters is only available in an HD package.
Most Dish subscribers don't even own an HDTV let alone have the HD package. And probably less than half of the HD package subscribers are upset about Voom and only a small percentage of them will actually cancel.
Life will go on and so will Dish. No one can justify paying for 15 channels when most people only watch two.
The only way Monsters and Kung Fu come back is if Voom sells these channels to a different company right before they go "belly up", because very soon Voom will not even exist.

probably so. Am sure however that Dish would like to know why some people will be dropping their service. Heard about one person writing the BBB and stating he should be let out of his contract because of this, (signed up because of VOOM), he said that request was granted by Dish in response to his BBB complaint.
In short, when you are getting screwed it is ok to say OUCH!

I can understand people being upset about losing Voom, espesially if it is the reason they signed up for Dish. Dish should let them out of their contract.
I just think most of them have a false sense that "they are in the majority" and "they can control the balance of the company" by signing petitions or canceling service.
I have no doubt that Dish will lose customers over this, but at the same time, Dish does not have to pay Voom for their channels anymore, so they will probably break even.

I agree with the earlier post(s) re: petitions. Dish could give a crap about any petition. They ditched Voom because they were no longer viable. Business decision, plain and simple. I, personally, had no opinion about those channels (never watched them-- same programming over and over and over), so I don't miss 'em. I feel for those who do, but a petition will have absolutely no effect-- other than appeasing yourself.

both companies are competing with having MORE HD channels, if dishnetwork would have kept voom, (which is a unique set of channels) that would mean more variety and would have separated them from directv. still. all the advertisements for HD is "more HD channels, etc.. i think dishnetwork having voom gave them an advantage over directv, now, both companies are offereing basically the same HD channels with directv having a few more, the customers would choose the company having the most HD channels, period, price is about the same too! sooooooooo. poor marketing decision i think on dishnetworks' part, i know of about 15 ppl that signed up with dishnetwork to get the voom channels (again - variety) now half of them are moving to directv because they have more HD. which i will soon be doing possibly.
--- a response to johnnytuinals - dishnetwork i dont think will ever be top of the game on HD, directv has more NOW, plus once dishnetwork adds more channels to catch up with directv they will increase pricing as well. wait and see i guess... both companies will eventually have the same channels, so no variety in programming to look forward to.

See ya later! This is what I'm talking about. You are one of the people that thinks they are in the majority. 99% of Dish customers could care less about Voom. Most of the 15 people you speak of won't switch. It's just empty promises. If you are upset that Voom is gone, that's fine. But, don't think that this is going to do much damage to Dish.
Good luck with DTV. Last I checked, they had about 9 channels that Dish doesn't. Most of them don't even have any HD content. The rest are worthless. No Voom either.
Once again, variety doesn't mean anything if people only watch 2 out of 15 channels. Voom will be dead within a year anyway. Dish sees this and is cutting their losses.

Don't disagree with your basic position, but people do have a right to bitch, why does that bother you?
Dish does not have the large pockets to compete one on one with DirecTV. What it historically has offered is unique programming to attract segments of the population that DTV does not support. If you look at Dish, they support religious as well as international language broadcasts. In fact I do believe they started as a regional provider that aired religious programs no one else would carry, think that is right. The Voom was something that set them apart from DTV for regular viewers like myself. Now that it is gone, how can you fault anyone like me for moving on???
Was it the right move for Dish, don't know? I really am wondering if they are bringing their programming in line to merge with DTV that has been rumored.
And one last word, just because you don't watch VOOM doesn't mean there are not people who care about it. I don't watch wrestling, but to some of my friends it is the most important thing on, I respect that!

You seem to take delight in seeing the Voom channels removed and the company forced into bankruptcy, despite so many who are NOT happy about it. Do you enjoy taking candy from babies too? That's seems to be your attitude. You have the freedom NOT to click on threads titled VOOM.
Don't expect us to support you when Dish removes your favorite HD channel.
You are also wrong about people not caring about Voom. If that was true, there would not be post after post about it. Who really gives a shit about Dish customers without HD - pointless. It's the customers who have been paying for HD, including Voom that are not happy.
There are far more people who signed up with Dish since 2005 because of Voom. I am ANOTHER ONE of them.
I am not impressed with name brand channels claiming to be HD but only offer 1 or 2 HD shows per week (if you are lucky).
When DirecTV launched their 100 HD line-up, Charlie laughed at them, saying he was dedicated to adding channels with real HD content, channels people would watch. I supported Charlie then, patiently waiting, and this is my reward - wannabe HD nationals.
Seems like Charlie saw that people want "name brand" more than HD content once the quarterly reports started rolling in. Now Charlie is catering to the "name brand" American. Something he shunned 1 year ago - hypocrite.
I am also another person switching over to DirecTV. Maybe, MAYBE after 1 1/2 years at DirecTV, Charlie and his Dish Network MIGHT be the HD leaders again - but now they are DirecTV-lite (for an extra $20 too.)
The first satellite launch for this year failed and no doubt panicked Charlie into bankrupting Voom, taking their satellite to make-up for the lost one, and using that to expand national HD.
Talk about desperate.
The next launch is for July. (good luck, but it's too little too late)
The second launch was for December 2008, but now is pushed back into 2009 due to the last failure (same launch system that caused March's failure).
Dish has a lot of work to do if it's going to survive itself.
At least DirecTV has their birds in the air.
Again, at the end of 1 1/2 years, maybe Charlie will kick DirecTVs ass again, but I'm not going to pay $20 more for less than DirecTV offerings and wait another year to year and one half.
DirecTV's DVR may be cluncky, but they are talking to TiVo again and bought Replay TV. They do not have PocketDish, but they do let you download to computer for viewing and transfering shows to Iphones and Ipods. DirecTV's VOD kicks ass and is free 90% of the time (unlike dish who wants us to pay $5 for a Pan & Scan SD VOD rental from the 70s)
Only thing a Dish DVR can do that a DirecTV DVR cannot is attach an external hard drive and connect a second TV with coaxial cable in SD only.
Dishes DVR advantage will be gone when DirecTV releases the next generation of DVRs.
Fuck you Dish!

My well deserved Fuck You to Dish comes from spending $125 per month for HD crap, spending tens of thousands of dollars on HD equipment for MY house, signing up with Dish (from DirecTV) specifically for Voom HD.
Adults can swear you know - try reading the entire post and get over your sensitivity to a cuss word.
Thank God my switch to DirecTV is financially FREE and hassle FREE.
If Dish can get its act together in another 1 1/2 years, I'll be back.

My point was that someone who thinks it's OK to end their long winded post on a public message board with "F U Dish" must not have alot of contact with polite society. But then you proved my point calling names on a message board where you will obviously never have to back it up. But if you want that title, you can have it too.

I admit my name calling (all directed at Dish, till this post), you're calling people (me - self absorbed turds) names while acting as if you are above it. But I'm glad called people self absorbed turds makes you feel better about yourself. That is an unconscious hypocrite IMHO.

There are lots of threads people can go to and bitch about it. The reason I chose this thread is because the idea of a petition is ridiculous. Moving to a different provider, I am as soon as feasible. You see we really DID choose Dish because of VOOM and would rather have the football package of DTV as our second choice. Here is the deal they have for a very long time been able to clean up and bring classic movies (yes those on MONSTERS can be considered classics) into the HD world. You can keep the digital broadcast of the multitude of News Channels that seem to keep popping up. That fake there HD 60% as well with the fillers on the sides instead of being fromated correctly to fit the screen. (Something that local HD broadcasts have even managed to overcome). VOOM presented a rare opportunity to give us ORIGINAL HD CHANNELS. Not rehashed, stretched, faked HD channels. (i.e SCI-FI, USA, A & E etc. ) So for my money I would rather have the the old.:banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I have a Direct TV Tivo, and 2 HD tivos, in 2 years they have never rebooted or froze. There great at finding programing and can even recover accidentally deleted programs. On the other hand my 3 week old 722 reboots about 2 times a week and freezes in the middle of a program once a week causing me to reboot it. Coming home and finding the program I recorded was 1/2 finished when the 722 rebooted and never finished makes me want to throw it through a window.

two 622's that did that. Only recently has our 722 rebooted and it would seem to be heat related. Others have commented on both models susceptibility to heat overload. Some have placed their units where there is nothing on top of to the sides of them for better ventilation. I have heard of people adding external PC type fans to keep them cool. May have to do the latter myself as the weather gets hotter here in old Sac Town.
great link and story. So its all about 3.25 a month cost to Dish, and here I pay over 140 a month. Wonder if Dish pays substantially less for the channels it replaced VOOM with?

Dish sees this and is cutting their losses.
obviously my intelligence far surpasses yours, i am one of the???
(i hold a masters in engineering to btw) also you're probably
one of those backwoods trailer trash fuqs (lowlifes) anyhow.
lol (this was written to elicit a response out of you, lets see what you say)
there were over 3 million subscribers to the voom networks before the business went bankrupt and sats. were bought out by echostar/dishnetwork.
*they had well over 75 HD channels as well to (at that time -directv and dish only 12 -15?? LOL ). i actually think if they were still around, they would have killed directv and dishnetwork.
anyways, our point for actually switching was not to upset dish (there again YOU are ASSuming) but to enjoy more quality tv and BETTER customer service, directv will eventually win out on having the most HD channels. soooo go home and chug down another beer you lowlife. LOL

A beer? I want a beer? Can I get a Miller Lite?
It might cool my temper while watching the tigers lose and lose and lose when I enjoy watching them play...

Wow, it really hurts being called a "backwoods trailer trash fuq" and a "lowlife" by a guy with a masters in engineering. Whatever school you went to must have one hell of an english program, "too". Are you kidding me? Your entire response is to tell me you have a "masters" degree. Obviously, you have far more intelligence.
Look, I don't know how many subscribers Voom had before they went bankrupt, but 3 million is only 1% of the US population. Maybe they would be "killing" Dish and DTV, but we'll never know, because they went "bankrupt"!
Oh, and if you're switching to DTV because of their "BETTER" customer service, good luck.
Now please excuse me, I have to go back to my trailer and chug a beer with the rest of those fuqs.

I don't know where you get your info from???
Voom never went bankrupt.
They Shut down their service because they were losing money and they sold programing to Dishtv after that.
You can cry all you want but there will be no more Voom.
Maybe we will get better programing in the near future

sorry didnt mean bankrupt, i just read that the ceo forked out his own money for a few months to keep the voom network active before selling the sats to dish.
