Which one to choose? Directv or DishNetwork?

I am a current Directv customer, I am looking to upgrade. Which would you choose? Directv or DishNetwork? I want to go Dish because of there sweet offer that's going on. But than again Directv has more hd channels (like SpikeHD and MtvHD). But I would have to pay $99 for a regular HD receiver and $199 for a HDDvr. While Dish has a HDDVR for free. Which would you choose?

I see why it is tempting to take the other providers offer when upgrading to HD. We kind of did that some time ago going from Dish to DTV. Have been with both a couple of times (different houses) and are currently Dish customers.

What I always say is:

Choose the one that has the programming you want. Particularly DTV if you are a football fan..their season ticket is awesome. Dish did have the very unique VOOM HD channels but they recently offed them, hence my avatar. I still like Dish though as they have good DVR's.

Just realize that you are making a long term commitment so saving 200 bucks now may pale if you don't get the channels you want.

I am also a previous Dish customer, I really want a HDDVR so I can record the UFC PPV. I really don't care for the Sunday Ticket, all I care about is SpikeHD. As I am a rabid UFC fan.

Sounds like you don't want a service which does not have your UFC PPV. Also, if you were a Dish customer in the past they might not let you in on the pricing plan for new customers. That is the way it worked in the past anyway.

As long as there is UFC PPV on Dish I don't mind. It has been more than two years since I was with Dish. I just recently finished up my 24 month commitment to D*. Is there more HD channels coming to Dish within the coming months. If so, I will call Dish right now. My 52" LCD is wanting HD real bad.

Have you talked to a CSR at Directv? If not give them a called tell them your story and see if they will work with you.

Be pleasant about it and you never know what they might do for you.

Good Luck either way.

Thanks. I was just about to do that. If I don't get any kind of promo, I'll just go with Dish.

Keep in mind that both providers will have all the HD channels, it just depends on when. If you are able to be patient go with DISH, their equipment and pricing is MUCH better.

We offer both and do a lot of price comparisons for customers and even with DTV's now enhanced spring promo ($23 off p/m for 12 months) DISH comes out to be less expensive over the same period if you have more than 2 TV's connected, and in the second year of service DISH is substantially less expensive for the same service. BTW - enroll in CC autopay and get Cinemax free for a year (which includes 3 HD channels).

Also, if you have multiple HDTV's (which we are running into a lot these days) DISH will give you up to 3 HD receivers for free.

it actually is .01 penny a year..lol..not much difference. But still one hell of a deal. I love it!

The best thing to do is to look at your exact wants and needs and decide which company best fits those needs with what they offer at the the a price you are willing to pay. Even though Digital Blue gives sends the message that Dish is ALWAYS cheaper (which in most cases it is), that may not be the case for everyone in every situation, including myself. With the same comparable packages from Dish and Direct (excluding my favorite package EI since Dish does not offer it), Direct is actually a couple bucks cheaper. Even if Dish was cheaper for me, I still would not get it since they do not offer MLB EI and they only offer half of what Direct carries in my local HD channels.

I had DirecTV for a few years, but switched to Dish when I upgraded to HD. I found it much more economical to switch than to upgrade my DirecTV equipment to HD.

Unfortunately, I often regret that due to many issues with Dish. When I signed up, they didn't give me the movie channels I was supposed to receive free for 3 months. After a few calls to finally get those, they began charging me for them. Then, they claimed they did not receive a payment and wanted to charge me a late fee, only to later admit it was an error on their part. Also, my brother did not receive a credit on his bill for referring me to Dish. So, if you switch to Dish, you might not get everything you're promised. I did get the HD DVR free though, as promised.

Anyway, the programming and pricing is pretty similar. You'll get some channels with Dish you won't get with DirecTV, and vice versa. The Dish equipment is much better. However, I'm really leaning toward switching back to DirecTV when my 18 month commitment is up. DirecTV constantly sends me mail with great deals if I come back. That's one option, to switch for a short time (but don't commit to 18 months - which will probably cost extra though), and then go back to DirecTV. However, I've read a lot of stories about DirecTV giving customers a good deal on the HD upgrade if they know you are thinking about switching.

I just called D* and they transferred me over to there "Special Customers Line." And I was able to get the HD-DVR down to 49.95, but they were going to charge me 49.95 for shipping and handling with installation. I couldn't get them to go free. Dish offerred me America's Top 250 with Ultimate HD for 69.99 a month with $40 credit on 1st, 10th, and 20th payments. Right now I'm leaning towards Dish. Should I try and negotiate some more with D* or should I stick with Dish? How is the HD programming on Dish? Right now I'm really into the NBA playoffs and I would really like to watch it in HD. I might just pull the trigger on Dish and take there offer.

I'd say go ahead and get it through Dish. I've been watching the Playoffs as well and the PQ is fantastic. Especially seeing Detroit winning last night was a major plus!!
