I have the 722 HD DVR and everytime they add a HD channel, they just keep the old one and add a duplicate one on the 9000 list, what for?
For example, they have Sci-fi HD on 122HD, and also on 9432, then they still have Sci-fi SD on 122, so that's 3 channels for just one channel needed (122HD)
Why can't they just add the HD channel and get rid of the SD channel that is right before the HD channel? and what's the deal with having the same HD channel on the 9000list? is it just so they can say they have so many HD channels just to make it look good?
Anyone knows?

9000 is the channel number... its converted to 122 for convenience. They leave the SD channel also, since you are paying for it... could be used if you want to record a program but you want to save hard drive space for example.

I didn't think about the hard drive disc space, I guess that makes sense, even though I wish they had the option of deleting channels you have no use for, there is no such option right?

Actually the term is 'Mapped Down", the additional channels do not take us space and makes it easier to find when the new channels are added. The sd channels are left because not all receivers are HD and it would not be fair to remove them from the non-Vip receivers as those customers would lose the channel and they leave them on the Vip receivers since the bandwidth is still being used.

I haven't done this, so correct me if I'm wrong. Couldn't you create a favorites list with all of the channels you receive, minus the SD channels or channels you have no use for? Or, is there a limit to the amount of channels you can add to a favorites list?
Also, another good reason to have the SD channels is for the TV2 output. If you watch a widescreen program on your SDTV in another room, you would have to change the aspect so the picture does not appear "squished" on the sides. That could be a hassle always changing that when you go back and forth between your HDTV and SDTV.

You you can set up favorites or you can also use the Locks feature to lock unwanted channels and then hide them. I prefer doing the Locks so when new channels are added, they just show up. With favoriites, if your guide is on a favorite list, you do not see the new channel right away. Also, hidden locked channels do not show up in themes or searches.
Also note: the aspect ratio is handled differently between tv1 and tv2 depending on whether you are on single user vs dual user mode. Example, dual user mode, sd is stretched on tv 1 and normal on tv2 but in single user mode, sd would be stretched on both tv's but would look normal on tv2 but if you had it normal on tv1 (black bars on side) it would appear compressed with the black bars on tv2 as well. What you stated is for dual user mode, but remember: there are users who have their dual tuner receivers set up on two tv's but use single user in order to have access to the pip feature.

Don't forget that if you subscribe to HD locals and have an OTA hooked in, the locals are in 5 locations!

Damn! I just found out about the locks feature, excellent, now I can get rid of duplicate channels and the channels I don't care about, can't believe I never noticed this before.

I just got rid of a LOT of useless channels, damn now my guide looks cluster free and 100 times more useful.
I saw that lock feature before but I thouht it was just good for locking channels by ratings or locking ppv... I didn't know channels could be locked individually, thanks for the tip.

I did the same, it looks sooo much better. I kept all the lower numbers. But forgot I also had set up some programs on the 9000 channels for recording, and while looking at my newly organized favorites started to freak out, wondering why the DVR was not set up.
Oh well, another day, another senior moment.

Another good reason for having the SD channels is in some bad weather situations you might loose the HD transponder but still have the SD transponder and be able to at least watch the program in SD.

I still kept the SD local channels for TV 2 and for TV1 when an OTA channel is recording.
Problem: The guide shows a wrong corresponding channel, all the channels in the guide are ok, Example: Ch 3 has the same guide as ch 3.1, but the problem is with ch 33.1, ch 33 has the right program guide, but ch 33.1 has the program guide of ch 39, what's up with that?
It's been more than one day, so I know the guide has been updated, but the error persists, anyone knows why and how to fix it besides calling DN, which most likely will be of no help, since they don't know jack?
