I remember reading about it a few months ago but cant find the details and the dish website is a bit unclear to me... Can I get ONLY HD programming now without the americas top 100, or top 200, etc packages?
I have the top 200 package but I dont really watch it... Id like to just have the HD programming.

You need to call. Rumor has it at 29.99 mo. Nothing on the website that I could find.

Yes it is in fact real. I just recently had my service switched to the HD only package along with locals and HBO and Showtime. It has reduced my bill and I am very pleased with the offerings. Call Dish for pricing and I believe it to be $29.95 without the extras I mentioned.

awesome, and does that include the 45 HD channels or the "essential" 28?

It includes all of the HD channels except for add on's like movie channels etc.

I switched to the HD-only package yesterday. I have a wife, a 13-year old and an 8 year old and there's plenty of channels for all of us. My bill has been reduced from $74-something a month to $40 a month. Not bad for this quality TV in this day and age, seems to me.:yippee:

Just to add a note from my last post ... I have the locals package in HD also. Not happy about the vanished VOOM channels, but I can live with it.

Yes you would.
Unfortunately I can't go there yet. I would need TVLand, Comedy Central, Lifetime, Lifetime Movies, DIY, Gameshow Network, WE, MTV, MTV2, Spike, Hallmark, Soap, Sleuth, Chiller, HNN, Fox News, MSNBC and last (and for me personally least) the shopping channels in HD or the family would kill me with my wife leading the charge.

lol... Id miss comedy central, VH1 and MTV but for about $30/mo I can live.

The website shows 3 HD programming levels - the lower two are HD channels that are added to your AT100, AT200, or AT250 packages. The third level, which is 29.99, is HD only - so it drops the AT packages from your bill. A great deal, for those that don't mind the trade-off!
I have seen other people in other threads complaining that some of the HD channels were not showing up and the CSR said it was becasue they didnt have the corresponding AT package. Sounds bogus to me, but I'd research the outcome before switching over...

I switched to hd package only, saving tons of $$$ but one drawback is no comcast sports network chicago!!! if i want that one channel i would have to get 100 plus with ultimate or essential hd pkge.......

HD Only programming is a great deal.
RSN's are not available, but Charlie said they were trying to work out a deal for them also.
I switched from DVRAdvantage-AT100 with HD and saved $25 a month.

Don't understand why we can't have the HD Only pack and the Sports pack. That would be just fine, and $36 per month

Top 250 is great though, not much more money, but a lot stuff to watch, I like my military, outdoor, speed, spike channels, couldn't do without them. Hope they'll be HD soon.

I just called Dish about HD only package. One large stumbling block for me IF the CSR is correct. He stated that even with the 722 receiver, my second tv (not HD) will not get any standard def at all. Can that be correct? He said the only way to have 2 hookup's is with 2 HD receivers. Any thoughts?

Does anybody know about the National Geographic and Versus HD channels? I subscribe to the AT200 and do not get them in SD and thus not in HD either. If I get the "only HD" package, will I now get those?
I have also noticed that they added two local Sports channels in HD; NESN and CSSNE. Do I understand that these are part of a sports package? Is this so called "sports package" part of the AT200 that I subscribe to? And will I be losing it? Here in Boston, we like our Red Sox and Celtics in HD!

First the good news: NGEO and VS/GOLF are AT-250 channels and they would also be available in the HD Only pack.
Now the bad news: NESN and CSNE are RSN's and you would loose them in the HD Only pack.

That's the way it is if you use only one box.

So, if I have a single HD Set top box, say a VIP222, I will still get SD versions of all of the HD programming on my second set?
I want to move to the HD-only package but I need to confirm that I will still have programming on my second TV if I make this move. This would save me about $15/month and I don't think I would miss any of the channels that are not part of the HD-only package.
If anyone has this sort of setup and can confirm what happens with the second tv signal, I would appreciate it.

According to the Dish CSR, the second set does get the HD programming downgraded to SD. The only thing he said is that there may be some letterboxing for non-widescreen TVs.
I was able to get them to upgrade my equip free (VIP222), free install and moved to the HD-only package ($29.99/month) with three months free. No leasing fees for the single receiver (two room setup without DVR and SD signal to second TV).

That would be even better. I'm assuming I could then just lock out all of the HD channels for the second TV (which is not widescreen) and everything left would just show up as full screen.
By the way, don't forget to ask for the three months HD-only for free ($90 value). I did ask for this initially but when the CSR was summarizing everything, he neglected to include it. I remembered after I hung up and called back to confirm that it was part of the deal. As I suspected, he hadn't entered the code for this offer so the CSR I inquired with added this to my account. They will credit you for the first month and at 10 and 20 months into the contract but that may even be negotiable for those interested.

One additional question for those of you with the HD-only package. Based on the icons shown on Dish's website for this package, one of the channels that seems to be missing from list is the Big Ten Network. This channel does appear in most of the other HD packages but not in the HD-only. Is this the case or did they just leave this icon out?

Also, could you get the HD-only package, then add the locals and the sports package to get your local FSN? If you got the sports package, would they black out your local teams (MLB, NHL) or could you get them that way? That would be $30 + $5 + $10 right?
