From Dish's site:

http://www.dishnetwork.com/hdupdate/

DISH Network continues to be the leader in providing the best movies, sports and entertainment in High Definition. In order to provide you with top quality entertainment, DISH Network continually evaluates and at times, makes changes to our channel line-up. We are excited to announce the addition of over 22 new high definition channels which will provide our customers with top rated programming. As of result of these additions, we removed some channels that are less popular with our customers. These channels are not available with any other satellite provider. Watch for even more high definition channels over the upcoming weeks as DISH Network grows to over 100 of the best national HD channels by end of year.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Today you gain 17 more HD, then they remove 10.

Only Monsters, Rush, Equator, Kung Fu, and Rave are left.

I am so pissed. Removed VoomHD channels were the only channels my family watched. I loved the FilmF, my wife loved UltraHD.

I cancelled my DishNetwork subscription already.

Voom was of no use to me, but it sucks to not keep them just because.
Bring on the new HD channels, I want, speed, spike, outdoor, military, and playboy (yeah I said it)

Did they really remove some of the VOOM channels? I liked the FilmFest. They had foreign movies. Yes, just another prospective on movies.
UltraHD was amazing........
At least, everything was pure HD.

If I was a Dish sub, this would not bother me too much. I would prefer the more watched national HD (even if they only show HD some of the time) over those particular VOOM channels anyway. That being said, they way they did it was just wrong. First they got everyone excited with the big "22 NEW HD Channels" announcement, then they pull 10 HD channels away without telling anyone.

I don't really care much about them dropping the Voom channels, but how many channels does that leave you paying $20 for versus just getting the HD Essentials for $10?

From a Cablevision subscriber, I think you guys are lucky....I WISH Cablevision would remove these channels and get us some better channels. I do watch some of the VOOM channels, but not enough that I will miss them.

yeah, I know. I just want some of the better (IMO) HD channels it seems every provider has other than Cablevision (DiscoveryHD, HistoryHD).

VOOM Take Down
Effective May 12th (11:59pm EST) 2008, the full VOOM HD Line-up is no longer available on DISH Network. DISH Network continues to be the leader in providing the best movies, sports and entertainment in High Definition.

In order to provide customers with top quality entertainment, DISH Network continually evaluates and at times, makes changes to our channel line-up. We are excited to announce the addition of over 20 new high definition channels which will provide our customers the top rated channels including The Weather Channel HD, Disney HD East, Bravo HD and Cartoon HD. As of result of these additions, we have removed some channels that are less popular with our customers. These channels are not available with any other satellite provider. The VOOM lineup removed consists of 10 HD channels.

Watch for even more high definition channels over the upcoming weeks as DISH Network grows to over 100 of the best national HD channels by end of year.

Thanks for supporting DISH Network!

I really liked Voom and a bit bummed. But I mostly enjoyed the 2 music stations (MHD 9469/369 and RAVE 9470).. But I still get them including RUSH, EQ, Monster, and Kungfu. So basically I still have the Voom channels I watched anyway. Treasures and Gallery I watched a bit, but not much and biggie at all. Are we loosing all of these soon as well or are we keeping them??? If we are going to keep the Voom channels I still have, I will be very happy... Additions like:
Travel Channel HD, SCI Fi HD, Bravo HD, TWC HD, USA HD, ESPN News and Biography HD will more than fill the void. I check out WFN and Smithsonian HD last night and thought they were pretty good too.:yippee:

quick question.. i just had dish hd installed last week w/ the top 250. being that all the channels i watch are now all on hd, can i back out of the dish-advantage 24 month contract if it hasnt been 30 days yet?

ive been a dish sub for over a year and a half.

18 is # 1

Lets not forget...if you don't add bandwidth (another sat.) you must take away existing channels to add new ones.

I know I will spend more time with the new than I did with the old.

Nope. 3 days not 30. You can change your programming at any time, you just have to maintain a package that qualifies for the DHA-24, which the all HD package does. But if you have any SD tv's you will be out of luck.

I suppose now that much of Voom will be gone, the same folks that never watched it will complain Dish does not have enough HD channels.
oh, well. ...no accounting for taste, or human nature.

Let's just hope Dish is replacing them in a timely manner with HD programming most will enjoy. Content 'should' reign over bragging rights about 'how may HD channels'.

Plus Cartoon Network HD FTW!

well i plan on dumping Dish, Voom was the only reason i had to stay with them. I down graded to just the HD package while i wait for my D* install then it will be good bye to Dish. i was a subscriber since there second year and got the whole family signed up plus a ton of friends. now i will see if i can convert everyone to D*, they got more HD capacity and with more sats going up will stay in the lead for a long time.

Don't let the door hit ya on the way out! Voom was a waste of time and money. You could watch the entire line up of what Voom had to offer in a weeks time. Then nothing but repeats..I'm glad they are finally taking this niche service out..it was nice for a while but once you have everything you liked recorded there wasn't anything left. I will miss MonsterHD though, but i'm sure Chiller is coming since they just added it to the SD lineup a few weeks ago.

Unless something has changed since last night that I didn't hear about, Monsters HD is one of the Voom channels that Dish is keeping along with the other most popular ones.

I was just told by a CSR that the IFC will be in HD asap, as well.

He did not mention FU or Monsters being taken off.

Charlie did say today that the rest of Voom will be gone soon.

For now we still have Monsters, Kung Fu, Rush (how did that survive?), Equator (how did that survive either?) and Rave. They should have knocked off Rush and Equator and kept Family Room and Voom Movies.

I personally would miss Monsters and Rave the most. I already miss Family Room and HDNews.

I believe that Charlie is once again playing cards just the way he likes to. The reason for all of this was that Voom was not living up to a contract Dish and Rainbow Media had between them. Voom was supposed to spend $100K per year on programming. They did not. Dish wanted to see their books and they were allowed to see them. They did not spend as much as they were supposed to. This whole thing is going though the courts.

I really don't think Charlie wants to drop Voom as that is what makes Dish different than Direct. Dish has no Yankee fans in NYC because Dish doesn't carry YES at all. Voom is different and they should strive to be better. Voom is really getting too lax.

If you want all your sports, get DirecTV. If you want the most movies and variety, get Dish.

Charlie is just giving Voom a great big kick in the a** and maybe, just maybe they will be back and better than ever. How much better? How about at least 2 premiere monster movies less than a year old on MonstersHD every Friday and Saturday night? How about not showing any movie more often than 5 staggered times a month? Then not repeating them for at least 6 more months.

Bring back Voom Movies and and do the same but making it look more like Film Fest and World Cinema. Sure it would be necessary to show lots of older stuff to start but don't show the same thing often.

If Voom were to actually adopt this sort of way of operating, the Voom bashers would dry up and go away. Consolidation of some channels are necessary as well. I would say if they were brought back to 10 channels, that would suffice. If they added some commercials but not interupt movies or concerts, no problem. Throw the commercials in between shows and between takes on Rave Shuffle.

If Rainbow Media played their game right, Voom could become mainstream. But right now, their narrow sightedness is leading them straight into their eventual downfall.

Charlie is right. They needed that good swift kick in the a**.

I just think they should combine all 15 channels into 5-7. That way it'll be the same content just won't seem like it repeats every 3 hours. Plus it would still leave some bandwidth for more channels.

That could be said of any premium channel for that matter.

But I agree, if it can be replaced with something better I'm all for it!

That is one of the major complaints we get about D*. Their channels are all over the place in the guide - nothing is grouped and that their equipment is not near as flexible.

That is one of the major complaints we get about D*. Their channels are all over the place in the guide - nothing is grouped and that their equipment is not near as flexible.

Then the complaints are meaningless because it is simply not true. With the exception of CNN's, all channels are grouped.

All locals are between 2 and 70 matching their OTA channel

All DNS locals are in the 80's

All DTV information channels are in the 110's

All PPV's are in the 120's through 170's

All ESPN's including their alternates and BTN are in the 200's through 220's

All shopping channels are in the mid 220's

All home, lezure, and fix it channels are in the high 220's to low 230's

All national "cable stations" such as USA, Spike ex are in the 240's

All "Women" channels are in the low 250's

All "cable" movie channels such are FMC are in the middle to high 250's

All science channels are in the 260's through 280's

All kid and family channels are in the 290's to 300's

All music channels are in the 320's to 330's (including 101 mirror)

All news are in the 350's to 360's (except CNN)

All religious stations are in the 370's

All RSN's are in the 600's

All Sports packages are in the 700's

Most importantly. All HD's are next to their SD's. Simulcast stations are the same channel number and non-simulcasts are the same channel number followed by a "-1".

None of the Voom channels are worth keeping. Everytime I tune to those channels it's always the same shows. I watch HDnews time to time because it's all HD unlike CNN HD which is not 100% HD. CNBC HD looks good though. I was so happy when they added Scifi HD and USA HD. I hope they add more HD to replace Voom that they just recently dropped.

I can't believe they removed the true HD programming. removed 10-15 and add 22 channel that include some stretched & upconverted programming. Bad idea. if you are not familiar with the voom programming check out check out the VOOM web site and compare the true HD programming to the new content on DISH.

When I casually asked Dish Network where the Voom channels were, I was told (never previously notified) thy they are now gone and in their place they have all this yada yada yada. Since I paid extra each month for the Voom HD channels, I sked Dish Network to revert my charges back to before when I didn't have Voom, they told be that I'd be busted back to their basic service. Pretty sneaky, only definitely NOT Pretty! Good bye, Dish Network. I hope this doesn't come as a surprize! AT&T, you're looking GOOD!

Well, I was leaving Dish until this great news. Making room for more national HD is a great idea:yippee: . The only channel that I will miss is Equator, which had some dazzling picture quality and some good geographical programming. Making room for Military HD, Speed HD, Fox HD is a very smart move. well it looks like my best bet is with U-Verse, i am not thrilled to be able to record only one HD show in the house at once. but i will be saving a ton of money as i have both ATT DSL and there phone service. for those who think this was a "Voom Had to go so we can get more HD channels" is crap. the other 22 were up at the same time as all the Voom channels. they could have had them all but they may not have been able to add much more. i could do without the Weather Channel or the Fishing channel. this is going to be a mess as Rainbow media is going to never allow AMC HD, IFC HD or the Sundance HD channel. this will just be one more fight like the one with FOX, in the end like all there other law suits they will delay but louse and have to pay.

I am NOT PLEASED by this decision. Did anybody notice that Gallery HD ran full-length operas on the weekends? Where else will we get to see anything like this? What is really irritating is that VOOM has been replaced with channels I have no use for and will probably never watch. No chance of a price drop, I guess?

I'm highly annoyed by the dropping of the VOOM channels. The constant repetition was annoying but I only really noticed on GAMEPLAY. (This seems to be one of the places where VOOM must've been spending whatever monies they did spend.)

The above reasoning makes the pill a little easier to swallow though. What I don't get is the 'I never watched VOOM so get rid of those channels' attitude. If bandwidth was the problem then I get it...we give the bandwidth to the channels with the higher viewership. But it sounds like this is a contractual issue and not a bandwidth issue so what's wrong with offering the widest range of channels possible. I'm never watching the Golf, Fishing or Tennis channels but I'm actively campaigning that they be removed. (Okay, for a couple of minutes right after I noticed Kung FU and GAME were gone! But that's passed now. )

The above poster is correct. VOOM was (and would probably have remained) the only real line-up difference between Dish and Direct TV. Cause in all honestly when it comes to the national channels, at some point, both Dish and Direct TV will have the same line-ups. The provider preference will come down to customer service and that little leg up. Hopefully, they can get the contract problems ironed up, VOOM will improves its offerings and Dish will have that little extra to woo customers.

Don't think you're going to save a "ton of money". Even though you have other AT&T products the average monthly bundle discount for having all three is only $4. It may be different in your area, but U-Verse is more expensive than DISH here.

From Dish's site:

http://www.dishnetwork.com/hdupdate/
As of result of these additions, we removed some channels that are less popular with our customers. These channels are not available with any other satellite provider.

I am trying to figure out this quote. Are they telling Dish subs that the removed channels can't be found anywhere else, so subs don't jump ship? Or are they saying these channels are so unpopular that on one else is carrying them either?

I always thought the majority of VOOM was useless.

Yes616

Right now the only way you can get Voom back is if you can get Cablevision.

A little while ago at Team Summit, Charlie was asked about the Voom take down.. Here is what happened..

I talked with Charlie about VOOM about a half hour ago, and what he told me (unofficially of course) was much like the rumor I posted a few days ago. I think its safe to say we will never see 15 channels of VOOM again, but it may be possible to some Voom programming in the future.

I do hope someone asks him tomorrow though.

Rainbow has a booth here listing all the channels they run including VOOM, and I spoke with the person at the Booth and at first they didnt want to talk about VOOM until he saw where I was from and he basically said mistakes were made but they would still would like to be back on Dish in some form. He told me to tell you guys to call Dish and tell them you want your VOOM.

From what I have heard here the call volume of VOOM calls so far has been less then they expected and the number has been dropping greatly already.

This is for real and never mind who talked to him. Everybody CALL AGAIN!! DON'T LET THOSE CALL CENTERS GET TOO QUIET!!
