Anyone out there have a bit of sage advice for ripping Disney's DVD's to my EHD? I have ripped almost my entire DVD collection, but I saved my Disney disks to the end knowing they would give me the most trouble. I was correct.
I have DVD43 to break the encryption, and I use typically use either DVDShrink or DVDFab Gold for the ripping. Shrink works on very few of the Disney titles, and DVDFab works on about 50%. Is there some reason some are working and some aren't (even some of the newest titles work, so I don't think it has anything to do with the age of the disk)?
Before this devolves into a debate on DRM, I am only ripping MY titles that I legally purchased from Disney - I just want to be able to watch them on my HTPC. I make it a habit not to even rip friends disks (although I have done an occasional one), becasue I want to have a factory copy in the event of an HDD failure.

Breaking the copyright/content protection of any commercial DVD is illegal in the US. This forum does not allow discussion of illegal activities.

Loves2Watch is correct. Although the law permits you to make a back-up of your purchase - you will be breaking the law if you have to decrypt your purchase. Ambiguous at best, and stupid spelled RIAA & MPAA.

Thank you both for your candor. I suppose that as our Grandparents had to do during prohibition, all we can do is wait until these fatuous laws are changed.

I think most people interested in this stuff react to these laws in the same way, the grandparents generation reacted to the prohibition. But HDF isn't this kind of speakeasy....

I thought they changed it so that it isn't illegal to circumvent the encryption on a dvd you own. But it's still illegal to transfer the data to another device or media due to copyrite and IP. Which still means it's illegal to copy a dvd even if you own it. Anydvd HD will bypass the encryption but you have to pay for the HD version.

No that is incorrect. It IS always illegal to circumvent copyright/content protection in the US, ALWAYS.

DVDFabDecryptor works with pesky Disney and Lionsgate releases I've heard.

DVD Fab will cure all that ails your Disney DVDs.
On a personal level, I could care less about the DMCA, and neither should anyone else who is strictly concerned about private usage.
