Alright...this is the second time CBC has done this. The Montreal VS Boston game claims to be in HD........But theres now way in he** thats HD. I'm a HD freak....I'm so bad I only watch HD Programming.
What's up with the CBC HD Broadcast ? I tried calling their customer relations..and the guy I spoke with started asking me what resolution I had my tv in, and if I had a LCD tv and what cables I was using...I felt like going through the phone and slapping the moron

Don't be too hard on the poor saps... I've seen enough HD from CBC to know that some stuff is and some isn't. Dr. Who was never shot in HD but the digital wide screen broadcast would fool some. Watching news and you'll see many of the ENG cam shots are still std 4:3 aspect and grainy. The industry is pretty sensitive to what is and what isn't when the pr dept is extolling the virtues of their HD broadcasts and demand the little HD icon tags is the true sign you're getting the real thing :) BTW: what is your source OTA or Cable compressed.

Give it a bit of time... it takes a lot of cash to replace all the SD equipment and if it's not a home game...

But this new HD CBC documentary channel has me fuming. Am I paying tax dollars so that private cable can charge $ for what I can't afford?

Well, tonight the Ottawa and Pitsburgh game is fine. I think cbc upconverts to hd if the games are not at home or something. It doesnt take a genious to tell when your not seeing hd. Upconverting to HD isnt really hd.....anyone can tell the difference. I have bell expressvu btw.

Here's the answer from CBC.
CBC has 2 High Definition Trucks...one in eastern canada and one in western canada. Anything outside those areas....for example down in boston...or pittsburgh..... are not being broadcasted in HD on CBC. It's upconverted or whatever you wanna call it, but it's not HD !
Any games played in eastern or western canada ARE Broadcast in HD. If montreal and calgary drop out of playoffs, then they'll probably bring the trucks down to follow the games.

As a side note, watching a game the other day the image was true HD on most of the camera's but you could see the differences in PQ from various cams. I had a tech visitor who has experience with most of the TV broadcasters and he knew what kind of equipment being used by the image displayed. Both of us knew a rewind shot, the display went soft, so the difference between buffered and live was fairly noticeable.. See if you can spot this on your set-up.

Isn't state run TV wonderful? CBC should stick to what they are popular for... Hockey. If we have to pay for the CBC with our tax dollars to the tune of 1 billion per year, they should at least invest the money into the best experience possible for the fans of the one show that gets any ratings. IMHO.
