AntennaWeb vs TVFool

Could someone explain why www.antennaweb.org and www.tvfool.com seem to give such different results? Two years ago I checked AntennaWeb for my 36832 ZIP, and got about 35 channels.. That turned out about right when I installed a ChannelMaster CM 3671, 9521A rotor, and CM 7777 Titan2 PreAmp. I lost the printout recently and went back to the site to print a new one, but this time it only gave 3 channels. I then checked TVFool, and the results displayed 37 channels that corresponded pretty well with what I actually receive. The reason I would prefer to use AntennaWeb is that it displays the data as ordinary text that I can easily import into a spreadsheet. TVFool displays the results in a graphic format that isn't as easy to work with.

Does all this seem correct? I am pretty sure I did the search on AntennaWeb the same as I did two years ago, but the results are very different. I sent an email to AntennaWeb and got back a response that they were using very conservative algorithms. Did they make major changes, and if so, why?

Add height in the drop down data field with your exact address till you get close to the results you had before. This will add the stations you are looking for. A pretty halfass way of gathering data. but will get you in the ballpark.

Antennaweb changed their process some time ago.

I had looked for such a field, but couldn't find it. After your post I looked again, and found it under the "Options." Set it for 150 feet, and it looks like it worked great.

It's funny that the person at AntennaWeb didn't suggest that trick.
It amazes me how much you can learn if you hang around the right forum. :)

My vote is for tvfool.com . Even after I enter advanced options on antennaweb, such as my antenna height, there are still stations missing from the list that I receive quite strong. Some of these stations missing come in much stronger than some of those listed.

I've found that Tvfool is extremely accurate, not to mention a heck of a lot of fun to play around with. It's much more precise and detailed, showing you the strength of the signal you can expect to get from each channel. My favorite feature of Tvfool- the files you can download and display using Google Earth.

However, antennaweb isn't useless. As you stated, the way the data is displayed is easy to work with. Also, it kind of gives people a second opinion.

I like tvfool because it gives you some "try and see" channels too and even tells you that if you want to get them you might have to do a little work.....however it does seem to have a upper limit on how many it lists...I noticed this because as I added antenna height in it didn't give me more channels just raised my chances of getting them.....which didn't help me much with constructing my list of channels I can watch 24/7....now reaching 70+ channels that I have had to find and test for dependability manually instead of my preferred option of having tvfool do it
