Hi I just ordered a bunch of HD DVDs.

I'm really excited about how A Scanner Darkly will look on my
Samsung Le40M86BD, so my question is what do you guys think about the movie? And how do you think it looks in HD? Since I live in Denmark the shipping is about 5-10 days

Also ordered: Blood Diamond, Stardust, TMNT and
Queen: Rock Montreal & Live Aid.

Just watched The Matrix Trilogy... Damn! I almost creamed in my pants

I haven't seen it in HD but it does have a great story and I thought the animation was great in SD so in HD it should be amazing.

The movie seems to be really polarizing in my experience. I really enjoyed it, but I think I wanted to if you get my meaning. It certainly was not what I expected and I was hoping for a more fantasy/sci-fi type of experience then it delivered, but it was definately interesting.

I've watched it twice since buying it, once with my wife and once with a group of friends. My wife thought it was insanely confusing, wasn't all that impressed with the art style and has told me since that it is now one of "my movies", meaning she will not be watching it again in the future.

The group I watched it with had somewhat mixed reviews. Two people said the style of it gave them a headache or made them feel uneasy, and the other said he liked it but was totally lost most of the time.

The thing is, its a very dialogue heavy movie, so if you arent paying direct attention to it, it would lose much of its cohesion/meaning.

I'll definately watch it again, but it will never be one of my favorite films by any stretch.

As for the PQ, I honestly don't recall any glaring flaws, but I don't remember being all that impressed either. I'd have to watch it again to really review its quality, but I would probably put it on a similar level as Stardust. Decent looking, but not all that far off from what an upconverted SD would probably have looked like. But, It was one of the first titles I bought, so I may have just not had my set calibrated properly yet...

Yeah I haven't even received it yet and my girlfriend says the same thing... guess ill be watching it alone or with friends he he.

The primary reason I ordered this movie is because I'm a graphics designer and therefore very curious about how it's going to look on HD DVD. It got this kind of Illustrator look to it so I'm very excited.

Well time will tell... Ill post a small review when I've seen it.

Thx everyone!

I received "A Scanner Darkly" from netflix yesterday and watched it last night. I'm definitely going to buy it ASAP. I loved the style and the movie was great as well. You really need to pay attention but great movie imo...

This movie was awesome, I had absolutely no idea what was going to happen at the end. This is one of those movies that benefits from a second viewing, after you know whats going to happen you pick up on things you might have missed the first time through..

Robert Downey Jrs character was freaking awesome and he did an amazing job. Hell all the actors did a fantastic job..

however Its hard to really rate this movie on PQ and AQ cause it was not meant to look great in HD (it does btw) or great in any other way other than its own style.. This movies soundtrack was practically all dialogue so rating AQ on just dialogue seems rather pointless but everything came across as it should have or as it was intended to I should say..

Sooo I guess what I am trying to say is rating this under normal pretense would do it no justice. If you are into smart, funny and sometimes confusing movies than this is it. Truly some of the best (smart and witty) Dialogue I have heard in a movie in a long time
Overall 4.5/5

I think Lilmase1153's review is right on the money. I enjoyed the move and will watch it again. But it could have been just as good in SD. I do not even recall the picture quality-- it is story and dialoge driven; you need to listen very closly and pay attention or you will be lost.

The acting is terrific; but it's not a movie for everyone. I'm sure it will LOOK great; but if you want to enjoy/understand the story, how it looks simply does not matter a great deal.

Sometimes great/interesting stories are greatly enhanced by the visuals -- like Blade Runner-- but with this movie, I can not even remember how good/poor it may have looked, but the story will stick with you!!

I have to say it upscaled amazingly I ended up buying the SD version because it was £3 in store in a sale and I didn't want to risk £14 on an unknown quantity (it's not availible in the UK so has to be imported) and it really didn't look SD to me and I generally pick up on these things instantly, so now I'm not sure whether I want a HD ver or not lol.

I rented A Scanner Darkly in HD DVD from Netflix and it was a mess. Chapters one and twelve were pixilated and virtually unwatchable. This ruined the movie for me. I cancelled Netflix after this latest fiasco (though their previous discontinuation of HD DVD killed them for me anyway.)
