best hd dvd out?fuj357racing 01-06-2008, 05:05 PM any feedback on best dvd out there for hd which has great sound. looking to test out the new reciever. :yippee: bout time got a new one hdridge 01-06-2008, 08:32 PM Transformers looks and sounds great. Happy Feet is also pretty stunning. HD Goofnut 01-06-2008, 08:55 PM Blade Runner was the first HD DVD to get 5 stars all the way down. macmarkus 01-06-2008, 08:58 PM Yup, Blade Runner all the way ! Stunning in HD. Who'd thunk it back in the day watching it in the theatre huh ? This is a cool time to be into film ! Peace macmarkus :) Noct 01-07-2008, 01:20 PM Transformers, King Kong and the newest Harry Potter all come to mind as looking outstanding, but the most overall stunning in both AQ and PQ to me has been the Planet Earth set hands down. On top of looking absoutely stunning, it has just amazing AQ. I haven't seen Happy feet or Blade Runner in HD though... LazerGuided 01-07-2008, 01:50 PM Planet Earth by far the best HD DVD I own. Bourne Ultimatum HD DVD was good too. Tomorrow I am going to be watching Eastern Promises and the next day I will be watching Blade Runner. hollaatroy 01-10-2008, 08:00 PM I love the sci-fi and action stuff great, but I really enjoy the movies that I can compare with reality. For instance, I love the sound Opt. Prime makes when transforming, but I have never heard a robot transform into an 18 wheeler in real life, so I can't tell you how real or accurate the sound is. Or what it looks like when a green ogre takes a mud bath. But the documentary type stuff is really mind blowing, Planet Earth being one of my favorites. Seeing blades of grass swaying and hearing wind blow in surround sound is amazing. I know, it sounds boring, but the realism is amazing. dredpirate 01-13-2008, 04:26 PM Not eve one of my favorite flicks...but the picture? Truly unbelievable. sopranocaponyc 01-13-2008, 04:33 PM top 7 1.Last harry potter 2.batman begins 3.bourne ultimatium 4.face/off 5.field off dreams 6.300 7. Transformers junehhan 01-13-2008, 05:58 PM any feedback on best dvd out there for hd which has great sound. looking to test out the new reciever. :yippee: bout time got a new one If you are looking to test sound, here is my pick The Matrix Trilogy - This movie makes some of the best use of directional surround sound that i've ever heard in DtHD lossless glory Superman Returns - This movie probably has the best DtHD lossless track i've ever heard in any movie so far. Test roughly 30-32 minutes into it during the plane malfunction scene. Absolutely breathtaking sound quality with incredible LFE's! ag9670 01-13-2008, 08:08 PM My picks.. 1) Planet Earth - The visuals are just amazing! Places you're only going to be able to see through a movie like this. The places they go with their cams is unbelievable. I just wish I had a 60+ screen to watch it (presently still sitting at 42") 2) Mission Impossible 3 - Tom Cruise..'nuff said :D 3) Batman Returns - Not only is this one visually stunning, but the sound is on par. The fight scenes are powerful. mdale13 01-13-2008, 09:57 PM If we are talking audio quality.... transformers- this will really give your subwoofer a work out (the last 45 mintues. my favorite scene is when the camera goes super slow-mo and optimus prime and megatron are colliding on the highway, and also when the one autobot dodges the missiles in the middle of the city at super slow-mo. both are awesome) batman begins- wonderful use of rears and good dynamics (any fight scene, last 30 minutes) harry potter and the order of the phoenix- great special effects audio. good dynamics (dumbledore/voldemort fight scene at end) jwebb1970 01-23-2008, 11:32 AM No one mentioned HOT FUZZ yet? Very highly regarded in terms of PQ/AQ. To my eyes, one of the nicest HD transfers I've seen. Also helps that it's a brilliant sendup of big budget action flicks. Funny stuff & very well done. You'd swear Michael Bay set up some of those action shots!! (optimized for BluRay, of course :) ) fkjr2 02-06-2008, 10:44 AM IMHO - in this order: Transformers 300 Harry Potter Order of Phoenix Happy Feet King Kong Cheers jwebb1970 02-06-2008, 11:29 AM For an older, catalog title I would also recommened Uni's HD DVD of John Carpenter's THE THING. Amazingly good PQ for a 25 yr old movie. And a great horror flick, as well. Will venture to say it may be Carpenter's best post-HALLOWEEN movie. Rigo 02-06-2008, 12:11 PM For picture quality with amazing colors, get "Phantom of the Opera".....whenever I show people my XBR + XA2, I put on this movie. Other than that, Planet Earth. markfoto 02-15-2008, 06:43 PM 1. Planet Earth (hands down winner) 2. Batman Begins (Great PQ, GREAT Audio) 3. Matrix Trilogy (PQ gets better with each movie) 4. Cat People ( wins the spot for "most underrated", GREAT transfer) 5. 2001: A Space Odyssey (jaw dropping; Stanley would be proud) Stew4HD 02-15-2008, 07:44 PM King Kong is by far the one to show off your HD DVD player with.. STUNNING PQ! Holy shit! Another overlooked but stunning just the same is Shrek the 3rd! HD Goofnut 02-16-2008, 08:31 AM 1) Blade Runner 2) Planet Earth 3) Matrix Trilogy 4) King Kong 5) Transformers My :2cents allargon 02-16-2008, 10:47 AM Planet Earth - Galapagos is better looking Casablanca Bourne Ultimatum | |
